FLSA Status - Non-exempt

Under the general supervision of the School Principal or hdesignee, the Bus Driver has the primary responsibility for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the children, and staff during bus transportation to and from the School and on field trips. It is also the role of the Bus Driver to: guarantee that the bus is clean and in proper working condition at all times; determine and follow safe and efficient bus routes; assist in ensuring child/staff ratio is maintained on the bus and; maintain all transportation records required by the program; ensure bus evacuation drills are held at least monthly; and, evacuate children in case of emergency.

Essential Functions

• Drives a school bus on an established route to transport students to and from schools

• Picks-up and drops-off students as scheduled

• May transport students to and from locations other than the school • Administers the student discipline program relating to school buses

• Prepares discipline reports as necessary • Performs and records daily safety checks on the bus and bus components and equipment

• Performs minor maintenance and cleaning tasks to ensure safe and efficient operations • Prepares daily and monthly reports of operations and activities

• Perform other job related duties between non-scheduled bus driving or as assigned Other Functions • Direct traffic in the morning as assigned • Help receive students during morning arrivals

• Assist in the supervision of students to ensure safety as they walk to their classroom

• Clean cafeteria and take out trash as assigned • Pass out the transportation change report as assigned

• Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications • High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred

• Acceptable driving record according to TEA regulations

• Possession of a valid Texas CDL type driver's license

• Must successfully complete bus driver training program and Texas School Bus Driver certification program

• Comply with all laws as they apply to school bus driving • Exceptionally self-motivated and directed • Ability to motivate in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

• Must be able to change priorities at a moment's notice and willing to work extended hours if needed

• Undergo background investigation and obtain fingerprints through the department of public safety Certificates & Licenses, Registrations: Valid CDL Texas Driver's License, Certified in school bus safety education or has enrolled in a school bus safety education class under provisions by the department
