Position Information Classification Title Skilled Craftsperson FLSA Non-Exempt FTE 1.00 Minimum Qualifications Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, formal training programs, or on-the-job training.

Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience in the HVAC trade with at least two years of automated systems control operations.

Position Summary In support of accommodating more than 9,000 residents, the HVAC Control Systems Technician is essential in the domain of building automation and HVAC operations, responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing Building Management Systems (BMS). With expertise in electronic, electro-mechanical, and IT skills, the position ensures integration and optimal performance of HVAC control systems.

Collaborating with engineers and contractors, the technician plans and schedules installation and repair operations, staying informed about emerging technologies to provide innovative solutions.

Additionally, the position is on-call for emergency system failures, guaranteeing swift responses.

As part of a skilled craft team, the incumbent contributes not only to the efficient operation of HVAC systems but also to broader initiatives such as coordinating projects and supporting data collection efforts, highlighting their crucial role in the field.

This position participates in the on-call program.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies * Considerable knowledge of the HVAC trade, including automated control systems.

* Knowledge of test and diagnostic equipment, instruments, and hand/ power tools.

* Ability to read and analyze building blueprints, HVAC systems diagrams, and specifications.

* Effectively communicate with engineers, contractors, vendors, and system users.

* Knowledge of local and state electrical codes, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade.

* Understanding of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the HVAC trade.

Physical Demands * Climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolds; work from a ladder or scaffold.

* Bend at the waist and knees.

* Work with arms and hands overhead for extended periods.

* Use hand tools and power tools.

* Lift and move items at least 50 pounds in weight, both assisted and unassisted.

* Crawl to complete various tasks.

* May occasionally perform work-related duties outdoors in inclement weather.

* Safely operate a UGA state vehicle as necessary.

Duties/Responsibilities Duties/Responsibilities Work with BMS * Operate, troubleshoot, and repair building HVAC systems.

* Maintain, inspect, and repair pneumatic, electronic, electric, and DDC HVAC system controls.

* Utilize TAB techniques for diagnostic duties and system repairs.

* Program, design, and modify HVAC sub-systems of electronic building automation systems.

Percentage of time 40 Duties/Responsibilities On-Site Troubleshooting and Repairs * Perform troubleshooting tasks, including problem diagnosis, identification, and isolation.

* Discuss system malfunctions with users to assist in problem isolation.

* Determine appropriate actions for problem resolution.

* Consult with engineers and contractors regarding system operation and configuration.

Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities Planning and Development for Major Repairs, System Deficiencies, and Preventative Maintenance Tasks * Study building system design, blueprints, HVAC systems diagrams, and technical specifications and provide feedback for improvements.

* Test component and system performance, developing methods for efficient problem resolution.

* Plan and schedule installation and repair operations for systems.

* Research emerging technologies for improved functionality of equipment.

Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities On-call * Serve on an on-call rotation to provide support in responding to afterhours facility emergencies.

Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities Other * Coordinate the work of trades workers assigned to support data collection and significant project objectives.

* Perform other related work as required in support of general maintenance activity.

* Collaborate with University IT staff to troubleshoot network problems.

* Successfully complete all required training.

* Perform other duties as consistent with the purpose and scope of this position that may be assigned.
