***Position is estimated to support a hybrid work arrangement that is primarily remote with occasional on-site meetings at the NIH in Bethesda, MD

TASKS

(1) Provide epidemiologic expertise for the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study at National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) including but not limited to study design, field operations, methods and collection of questionnaire data and biological samples.

(2) Perform analyses of large-scale epidemiological research datasets, incorporating various analytic and statistical techniques to address priority tobacco research questions

(3) Design and support analysis of study design, questionnaires, surveys, protocols, informed consent documents, training manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and database management systems.

(4) Provide leadership on behalf of the PATH study team on analyzing, interpreting, communicating, and documenting epidemiologic data and results in the form of analytical reports, manuscripts, and other products.

(5) Provide leadership and technical expertise in epidemiologic data collection activities, sampling design, and statistical analyses of complex survey data.

(6) Perform a variety of quantitative and qualitative assessment and evaluation activities involved in collection, organization, analysis, preparation, processing and reporting of scientific information.

(7) Identify gaps in existing scientific knowledge and provide recommendations for future research efforts

(8) Contribute to preliminary planning for new PATH Study activities and directions

(9) Advise senior staff on study decisions and analyze the goals and scientific merit of current and projected PATH study projects

(10) Prepare summaries and briefing materials, communicate research findings, disseminate study products and other public information, and respond to relevant inquiries

(11) Lead and collaborate on scientific manuscripts and reports for publications; conduct literature reviews

(12) Develop and make readily available training materials to increase awareness about the program.

(13) Participate in multidisciplinary research team meetings and workshops; work with staff on symposia and discussions with national and international scientific leader

(14) Assist with communications and outreach strategies and prepare for information exchanges with public and private sector science colleagues working on research, programs, and policy related to tobacco research program priorities.

REQUIREMENTS

(1) Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Science, or related discipline.

(2) Background and knowledge of epidemiology of tobacco use, associated health outcomes, and current state of-the-science of the field

(3) Minimum of two (2) years of experience conducting and/or managing large-scale epidemiological research and working with complex survey data including qualitative and quantitative data analyses, longitudinal studies, and/or mixed methods research

(4) Complex data analyses using software such as SAS, SPSS, Stata, R, and/or Mplus
