Role: Renewables Civil Engineer (P.E. Required)

Location: Remote

Position Overview:

We are seeking an exceptional Civil Engineer to join our client's established team, providing technical leadership and expertise during the estimating, design, and construction phases of utility-scale solar, substation, wind, and BESS projects across the United States. This remote role is perfect for a seasoned professional ready to make a significant impact in the renewable energy sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Preconstruction Civil Design: Develop buildable area plans, preliminary erosion control, grading plans, and road designs for early-stage estimating.

Site Constraints Mapping: Create maps based on land surveys, hydrology/hydraulics reports, environmental constraints, geotechnical limitations, and client specifications.

Cost Estimation: Prepare Schedules of Values detailing civil material types, quantities, and general earthwork scope for inclusion in cost proposals.

Project Optimization: Collaborate with engineers and construction stakeholders to optimize project layout for cost efficiency and construction simplicity.

Task Delegation: Assign tasks to junior engineers and oversee their completion, ensuring high-quality deliverables.

Civil Engineering Deliverables: Produce necessary calculations, designs, reports, and documentation for project requirements.

Technical Document Review: Analyze geotechnical, environmental, ALTA, and topographical surveys, identifying trouble areas for stakeholder review.

Construction Drawings: Lead the preparation of civil construction drawings through various project stages, responding to comments and RFIs from owners, engineers, and authorities.

Construction Administration: Perform activities such as reviewing project submittals and responding to RFIs.

Team Leadership: Provide updates in weekly project calls and contribute to internal project status meetings.

Project Coordination: Assist senior engineers with project scope, budget, schedule, and resources to ensure timely, high-quality project delivery.

Field Observations: Conduct site visits to observe ongoing construction for compliance with construction documents.

Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior engineers, fostering their development and confidence in civil engineering.

Continuous Improvement: Contribute to department initiatives aimed at design efficiency, process improvement, and cost reduction.

Template and Standards Development: Help maintain and develop civil department templates, standards, and processes.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field.

Licensure: Professional Civil Engineering license required.

Experience: Minimum of 4+ years in civil engineering, with proficiency in site planning, grading, drainage, erosion control, and stormwater analysis.

Competencies:

Proficient in site engineering/land development design.

Strong skills in hydrology and hydraulics, using computer software for stormwater calculations.

Expertise in grading design for large solar and BESS projects using Civil 3D.

Thorough understanding of local permitting requirements in high solar development areas.

Skills & Abilities:

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Autodesk Civil 3D, QGIS or ArcGIS Pro, and stormwater software such as HydroCAD.

Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities.

Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Self-motivated, proactive, and a team player.

Ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels, vendors, clients, and other stakeholders.
