Position Summary
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a professional who serves as a key field-based scientific partner to healthcare providers and decision-makers, medical professional associations, and internal Almirall colleagues. The SR MSL will ensure access to current medical and scientific information on company products, therapeutic areas of interest, and investigational compounds or research areas if applicable to address unsolicited requests from HCPs. The SR MSL will be responsible for executing key medical strategies to positively impact patients living with acne vulgaris, actinic keratosis, and chronic inflammatory dermatological diseases. This position will support our field medical strategy in an assigned territory: EAST COAST
Core Responsibilities
Maintain in-depth scientific knowledge in areas of medical dermatology (especially acne vulgaris, inflammatory skin diseases, and actinic keratosis)
Identify and support potential research expansion projects/collaborations, medical advisors, and educational partnership opportunities
Conduct local roundtables and education programs that aim to enhance external experts’ understanding of unmet needs in their geography based on needs assessments
Serve as a scientific expert at key medical and scientific conferences, advisory boards, and internal meetings.
Support field-based cross-functional teams to provide medical expertise as requested by HCPs
Collect, analyze, and communicate information concerning therapeutic areas, treatment options, emerging standards of care, and competitive intelligence for internal communication/reports
Provide effective clinical presentations to internal and external audiences via peer to peer scientific exchange
Assess feasibility and serves as the primary liaison between Almirall and investigator for unsolicited Investigator-Initiated Studies (IISs) from inception to publication
Conduct on-going training to field sales and other internal personnel as requested
Required Education and Employment Qualifications
Doctorate degree (Ph D, PharmD, MD, DO in a relevant field preferred) required
Strong time management, and organizational skills with proficiency in Microsoft applications
Valid US Driver’s License and driving record in compliance with company standards
Must reside within the assigned territory
Must complete initial training and successfully pass all assessments within 90 days of hire
Extensive travel (up to 75%) required, including overnights and some weekends
Preferred Skills
3-5+ years of Field Medical/MSL experience
Dermatology experience preferred.
Prior product launch experience preferred
Strong-track record of identifying and building a network of HCPs including fostering relationships and the ability to identify national, regional, and local KOLs
Basic business acumen with a solid understanding of the pharmaceutical industry
Ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts in 1:1 and group settings
Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to problem solve while working in a complex environment
Must be a strong team player and effectively interface with other internal departments including regional business units, marketing, sales, medical affairs, and external collaborators (i.e. CROs)
