Description

Applications are being accepted by the for a full-time Sports Program Coordinator to assist in planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing a variety of sports programs, activities, and services for youth, teens, and adults. This position will be available after July 1, 2024.

Gaithersburg Sports programs enable people of all ages and skill levels to enjoy clinics, leagues, and recreation opportunities in a fun, family-friendly, community setting. A variety of sports programs and activities are available year-round for competitive play as well as the development of lifetime skills.

The successful candidate will be positive, creative, and resourceful and bring a fresh perspective to assist in growing and improving existing sports programs while developing and launching new programs. You must have some experience in planning, scheduling, and implementing a variety of youth, teen, and adult sports programming including seasonal leagues, clinics, athletic field rentals, and various other sports activities and events. The position requires public contact and experience in youth and community outreach, engagement, and inclusion, particularly with underserved populations. Customer service inside and outside the organization must be a top priority, with special emphasis on the delivery of quality programs to the public. The ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish is desirable.

40 hours per week; established business hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Will require some evening, weekend, and holiday work to support or monitor programs, events, and activities. A core work schedule will be established upon hire.

Starting salary for this position is negotiable within the target hiring range ($55,000 to $60,000) and will be offered at a level consistent with the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Job Functions

What you will do with us:

Plan, implement, and supervise sports programs, services, trips, and events such as summer camps and clinics, Start Smart, Cross Country, Recmobile - Mobile Sports, outreach program, and various adult sports programs.

Identify and analyze sports programming needs of the community; develop, coordinate, and implement athletic and sports programs and activities to meet those needs.

Hire, train, secure, schedule, supervise, and evaluate part-time/seasonal staff and volunteers.

Work with local agencies to encourage sponsorship or participation in sports activities, programs, or events.

Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and analyze program fees, charges, and expenditures; recommend changes and implement improvements.

Assist with ensuring safety and security of all program operations and participants.

Prepare and distribute marketing or promotional materials.

Participate in budget development and monitor budget of assigned programs.

Schedule and coordinate rental and interdepartmental facility use and equipment needs.

Qualifications

What you will need to be considered:

Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, time management, outreach, communication (verbal and written), public relations, and customer service skills.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities, problem solve, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

Solid computer skills (Microsoft Office); experience with financial and/or recreation management software a plus.

At least 2 years of college-level course work in Sports, Recreation, or related field; Associate's Degree or higher preferred.

At least 2 years of relevant paid professional work experience; previous experience in the public service field and in supervising employees preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding) preferred.

Valid driver's license.

CPR/AED and First Aid certification (may be obtained through the City upon hire).

Or any acceptable equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job. Additional Information
