Position Announcement Accounting Specialist II – Treasurer’s Office Starting Salary: $21.03/hr Position Schedule: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday – Friday Position Summary Position is responsible for basic accounting and cashiering functions.

Position is critical to proper financial internal controls and separation of duties within the office.

Position is a front-line responder and interacts with the public over the counter, phone, and email.

Work is performed according to County ordinances, Illinois State law, and generally accepted accounting practices.

Work requires considerable key stroke entry with a high level of accuracy, technical skill, and independent judgment.

Work is reviewed by Supervisor for adherence to policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Analyze and perform basic accounting duties in a computer-based accounting system Analyze and perform basic reconciliations in a computer-based accounting system and excel to identify variances or settlement issues Cashier, scan, process mail, and assist with special projects or duties as assigned Assist with a variety of duties vital to the property tax collection cycle Engaging in direct and daily communication with the public and business community Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong communication and customer service skills Knowledge and experience in using computer-based accounting software programs Knowledge and ability to use Excel, Word, and a 10 key calculator Ability to research, analyze, and assess accounting transactions Ability to communicate in a cooperative and professional manner orally and in writing Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public Required Qualifications Graduation from high school diploma or equivalent certificate Two years of work in a position involving accounting, finance or business Any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge, skills, and abilities Following an initial job offer, applicants will be subject to a thorough background check due to the responsibilities of this position Work Environment Office has an open floor plan.

Position will work in this office environment at a desk with a computer and phone.

Position will tend to the counter to perform cashiering and customer service-related tasks.

Position does not work from home.
