Purpose and Objective of position.

The Commodity Operator position is responsible for safely loading and unloading products at a Soybean Crush Facility. Primary functions are safe operations to load Meal and Oil onto railcars and trucks. Collecting, monitoring, and recording samples and controlling grain handling equipment, reading grain temps, measuring and maintaining inventory and quality of Soybeans, Meal, Oil, and all PC products.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Operate and monitor grain handling equipment in the facility through the computerized control systems and make process adjustments as required to achieve desired results.

Operate and monitor systems through sample collections and lab tests to determine changes that should be made to maintain the quality of the products and processes.

Unloads grain trucks and railcars as needed to meet plants KPI’s

Loads final product (Oil, Meal, Pellets, and Hulls) into trucks and railcars per KPI and unit rain and manifest delivery schedule.

Inspects and operates material handling equipment, rolling stock, railcars, track mobile and locomotives, rail switch stands, streetsweeper, skid loaders, and ATV’s

Completes grading of soybeans, and sampling, based on training by NAPI.

Maintain records of required documentation for test results of in-process product.

Maintain good housekeeping of all equipment of the area and may perform routine preventive maintenance duties on such equipment.

Maintain housekeeping plan records and keep a clean grains receiving and meal loadout area.

Utilize technical expertise to trouble-shoot and eliminate process-related issues.

Addressing, monitoring, and reporting of environmental parameters and issues.

Provide training to less experience department employees on subjects such as process operations, safety, quality, and company policies and procedures.

Perform duties in a safe manner, utilizing all approved safety equipment, and successfully completes all safety certification requirements.

Interact regularly with peers and management to promote a teamwork focused environment and pursue continuous improvement of facility operations.

Communicate with team/shift employees concerning proper operation of equipment, changes in flow rates or processing capabilities, safety concerns, product quality issues and maintenance needs before and during shift exchange.

May perform reasonably similar or related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.

AA degree preferred.

2 or more years of related experience preferred.

Strong safety knowledge and value for safety practices.

Correctly operate motorized and electric equipment, and computer systems.

Good time management skills and ability to prioritize work tasks.

Ability to climb stairs and ladders, read a tape measure, to work overtime as necessary.

High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially spreadsheets) or related software.

Mechanical aptitude, effective communication skills, basic math and fundamental computer skills.

Mathematical Requirements

This role involves statistical analysis and configuring basic inferences.

Basic math knowledge is required, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills to the general degree.

Reading a tape measure.

Professional-level, reasoning abilities are necessary to process complex information.

Candidates must be able to prioritize their tasks accordingly.

Being able to effectively prioritize deadlines.

Ability to work under minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor conditions.

Ability to work in loud noise environments.

Ability to work in dusty environments.

Ability to perform physical job duties such which may include bending, lifting up to 55 lbs or more, which requires regular kneeling, climbing, crawling, and twisting safely.

Ability to work 12 hour and rotating shifts.

Ability to work at heights up to 150 feet.
