Senior Electrical Designer (Solar & Battery Storage)

Location: Positions open in Phoenix, AZ and Kansas City, KS

Job Summary: FastGrid is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer, a key role in our team, to provide responsive, diligent, and collaborative support to our clients in the renewable power industry. We are looking for someone with extensive experience in renewable energy projects, particularly in the solar and energy storage space. As the senior electrical designer, you will be responsible for providing direction, delegating design tasks to junior staff, performing electrical calculations, DC and AC cable sizing, supporting electrical studies, and performing other tasks, as shown below.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineer and design solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and energy storage systems, aspects of which will include:

-System Layout

-Selection of appropriate system hardware

-System optimization

-Determining power generation and interconnection requirements

-Perform AC/DC system sizing calculations and develop infrastructure design.

Maintain firm design and production standards and oversee other electrical designers/engineers.

Mange the electrical design and budget of a wide range of projects, including utility-scale solar and energy storage projects. This diverse portfolio will provide you with a unique opportunity to apply your skills and contribute to the growth of renewable energy.

Coordinate with other project disciplines, including civil, geotechnical, structural, and substation engineers. Your role is integral to the team, and your collaboration will be key to the success of our projects.

Support the engineering staff in performing electrical calculations and studies such as short circuits, underground thermal ampacity, load flow calculations, and voltage drop.

QA/QC of design work performed on projects.

Maintain awareness of currently available equipment and industry best practices

Collaborate with and support electrical engineering teams in other offices as projects and workload dictate.

Support project construction by responding to contractor and owner requests, including RFIs and submittal reviews.

Participate in site surveys and investigations.

Print/create PDFs of construction drawing sets and participate in project reviews.

Produce legible, clean, and organized project documents.

Qualifications:

Minimum 5-7 years of relevant work experience in renewables and engineering

Ability to interface with clients and support their goals/objectives.

Ability to manage scope, schedule, and budget on assigned projects.

Familiar with electrical construction techniques, installation practices, and plant start-up requirements

Familiarity with low and medium-voltage electrical systems and components

Experience and knowledge of the design of utility-scale PV projects (desired)

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Comfortable presenting to and interacting with consultants, authorities having jurisdiction, and regulatory agencies.

Working knowledge of the NEC and NESC

Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in teams.

Proficient in AutoCAD (or another Autodesk product) and MS Office (particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

Working knowledge and ability to read construction drawings and specifications.

Must be a supportive team member, able to work in a collaborative environment.

Must be self-motivated and balance multiple projects under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.

Possess significant consulting firm experience in either building or renewables.

Experience and appreciation for value-added engineering/development support for different stakeholders in the project development value chain (i.e., developers, EPCs, investors, owner/operators)

Working knowledge and ability to read construction drawings and specifications.

Experience with BESS technology.
