Real Time Power Trader

Role: RT Trader - ERCOT

Industry: Energy Storage / Energy Trading

Location: Hybrid - Austin, Texas

Salary: $80,000-$120,000 + Bonus

This is an amazing opportunity for a RT Trader to join a renewable energy trading company who primarily trade around BESS, Solar, and Wind to help reduce grid volatility. They have built an industry leading algorithmic optimization trading platform, focusing on energy storage and renewable assets globally. The ideal candidate should have experience in short-term power trading managing dispatch of physicals assets & executing on trading strategies.

Job Responsibilities

Optimize physical and financial trading positions in day-ahead and real-time electricity markets, with a focus on maximizing value for clients' battery storage, wind, and solar assets. This includes developing strategies for Ancillary Services and DART trading for renewables.

Conduct market analysis to understand short-term supply and demand dynamics, competitor strategies, and transmission constraints, aiming to identify opportunities to maximize gross margin.

Scope and develop necessary internal tools and operational processes to support business scalability and success.

Assist with asset onboarding and handle ISO-related monitoring and documentation requests as needed.

Evaluate real-time market opportunities and risks while managing client assets, ensuring compliance as part of our shift desk rotation.

Required Skills and Experience

Experience or a strong interest in short-term power trading, managing the dispatch of physical assets, and executing trading strategies in physical and financial markets.

Keen attention to detail and the ability to adhere to strict operating protocols, including ERCOT business practices, nodal protocols, and NERC operating guidelines.

Ability to understand and communicate complex issues clearly and prioritize workload in a time-pressured environment.

Excellent interpersonal skills to build trust with clients, third-party vendors, and teammates.

Strong judgment and decision-making skills in high-pressure, high-value situations, with the ability to justify decisions.

Flexibility to participate in the shift desk rotation, including weekends and overnight shifts

Preferred Skills and Experience

Knowledge of the operations, rules, infrastructure, and key players in the ERCOT market.

Direct experience managing battery storage, wind, or solar technologies in competitive power markets.

Understanding of the drivers of real-time power and ancillary services market prices and the opportunities they present for asset owners.

Previous experience with regulatory/System Operator engagement or setting up a trading and operations desk in markets such as ERCOT, CAISO, MISO, etc.

Experience in risk management or post-trade analytics.

Proficiency in Python (Pandas, etc.) and experience querying relational databases (e.g., SQL).

Confidence in presenting to clients, board members, and prospective clients.
