Job Description
The Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Technician is responsible for performing ultrasonic thickness readings and field verifying equipment, piping, and instrumentation to ensure the associated documentation reflect the as-built condition of the facility. Emphasis is placed on quality of the work product and the efficiency of work execution.
The NDT Technician will report to a Project Lead who will establish clear expectations in terms of work quality, efficiency, and technical development.
To fulfill this role, the NDT Technician will:
Field verify plot plans, inspection isometrics, relief device/flare isometrics, and piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs)
Generate and read inspection piping and equipment isometrics
Capture digital images of equipment (vessels, PSVs, instrumentation, piping, etc.…) based upon plot plans, isometrics, or P&IDs
Perform accurate and complete visual and ultrasonic thickness testing of piping and equipment and document results
Quality check and provide course correction
Oversee and provide final deliverables to the Project Lead
Capture all necessary field details and communicate them effectively to other members of the project team
Provide guidance to AutoCAD Technicians as well as effective communication to engineering personnel
Assist inspection technicians by providing man-lift/ladder support
Comply with all Provenance and client safety procedures that govern the work being performed
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
One to two years’ experience in a petrochemical plant or refinery
Experience with P&IDs, piping isometrics, and plot plans
Basic computer skills
Strong communication skills
CAD skills are beneficial, but not required
The ability to climb ladders and platforms up to 250 feet with a harness and lanyard
The ability to work outdoors in warm, hot and cold conditions
Knowledge in application and compliance requirements of regulatory codes (OSHA, EPA, etc.) and industry standards and recommended practices (API, NFPA, ASME, etc.) is preferred
Nondestructive testing, ASNT Level II Ultrasonic Thickness Testing A-Scan (UTT-A) certification preferred
