JOB TITLE: Senior Mechanical Drafter

LOCATION: Hawthorne, NY (on-site)

TYPE: Full time, regular

COMPENSATION: $85,000 - $105,000/yr

Role Summary:

The Senior Mechanical Drafter will create detailed technical drawings for medical device development as part of a tight-knit development team. This role will support both R&D and production as required throughout the concept to production process. We are looking for a team player who views medical device development as a competitive advantage.

Responsibilities:

Use SolidWorks software to create 3D models and detailed drawings, schematics, and blueprints of parts and assemblies based on engineering designs and specifications provided by engineers or designers

Ensure that drawings are properly dimensioned and annotated with relevant information such as materials finishes, tolerances, and assembly instructions

Work closely with engineers, designers, and other team members to understand project requirements and implement engineering change notices as needed

Review drawings for accuracy and completeness, and make revisions as necessary based on feedback from engineers or quality control personnel

Maintain organized records of all drawings and related documents, including revisions and updates, to ensure traceability and compliance with both FDA and company SOP requirements

Verify that drawings comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices (ex: design for manufacturing principles) for mechanical design and drafting

Identify and resolve design issues or discrepancies that may arise during the drafting process, and propose solutions to ensure the functionality and integrity of mechanical components and systems

Provide technical support to manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance teams by clarifying drawing details, addressing inquiries, and assisting with troubleshooting as needed

Stay updated on advancements in CAD technology, drafting techniques, and industry trends to enhance productivity and efficiency in drafting processes

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or diploma in mechanical engineering, industrial design, drafting technology, or a related field

7+ years of experience in mechanical drafting or CAD design particularly in the manufacturing or engineering industry

Proficient in sheet metal, machining, 3D printing and molding using SolidWorks

Proficient with SolidWorks PDM with workflows and automation. Able to debug and improve any PDM automation or workflow issues

Has worked under design control environment using PLM software such as Arena or other PLM tools.

Has worked with external vendors on new product designs and update drawings per vendor requests as well as design requirements.

Proven experience designing large electromechanical system components, encompassing the creation of intricate technical drawings and blueprints tailored to the specific requirements of complex machinery and systems

Ability to create precise and accurate drawings with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that all dimensions and annotations are correct

Proficiency in leveraging additive manufacturing technologies, such as 3D printing, to prototype and produce intricate components, optimizing design for additive processes to enhance efficiency, reduce material waste, and achieve precise dimensional accuracy

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and convey technical information

Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve design issues in a timely and efficient manner

Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities, and willingness to learn new skills and techniques as needed
