Cloud Engineers design, implement, and maintain cloud solutions for the enterprise cloud platform e.g. Azure to meet the evolving needs of the business. Engineers demonstrate proficiency in cloud computing options and concepts including: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS), and public cloud, hybrid cloud, and private cloud configurations. Cloud Engineers design and implement fully automated solutions leveraging infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines. All cloud automation patterns incorporate standardized security tooling in partnership with Information Security. Cloud Engineers respond to and resolve cloud support requests and incidents within defined SLAs.

The Cloud Foundational Engineering team manages the design, implementation, and configuration of Costco’s Cloud Platform(s). It is essential that the engineered solutions factor in a multi Cloud environment and that requirements are gathered to clearly understand fit for purpose when designing the solution. The team leverages infrastructure as code best practices for implementation and configuration to maintain a strong security posture, provide traceability, and ensure consistency.

This Cloud Engineer role will collaborate with various teams in the organization to design, implement, and maintain cloud solutions for Costco’s enterprise cloud platform(s). This role will function as a Cloud Engineering subject matter expert and will be key in partnering with Cloud consumers to provide technical solutions. The individual in this role will partner with other Costco IT teams to ensure DevSecOps is built into CI/CD pipelines and the Cloud foundation adheres to updated security frameworks. This position will bring real world cloud engineering and solution experience, and will function as part of a highly skilled, agile development and cloud team supporting all areas of Costco IT.

ROLE

● Evaluates, designs, implements, and supports cloud solutions including Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).

● Designs, implements, and maintains solutions for role-based access to cloud portals and resources.

● Designs, plans, and implements cloud network configurations with a focus on scalability and reliability.

● Designs and implements automated cloud solutions for logging, event detection, and policy enforcement.

● Opens and manages support requests with the vendor and communicates updates to stakeholders.

● Applies industry standard vulnerability management tools in cloud environments.

● Designs and implements standards for the lifecycle management of cloud resources and supporting services.

● Designs and implements transitional solutions for on-premise and cloud networks.

● Acknowledges and resolves incidents and requests within defined SLAs.

● Collaborates closely with Engineering and Development teams to identify the root cause of issues on the cloud platform.

● Provides feedback to Product Management teams based on incident and problem data.

● Designs and implements enterprise solutions for cloud network connectivity and platform security in partnership with Network and Security teams.

● Deploys foundational cloud solutions in a manner consistent with business requirements and historic usage patterns.

● Writes and maintains technical documentation.

● Creates and manages Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

● Maintains, extends, and builds automated CI and CD pipelines.

● Responds to and resolves support requests and incidents within defined SLAs.

● Uses industry standard tools to improve and speed up delivery of our products and services.

● Provides fast and thoughtful issue resolution by executing quick fixes or proactively identifying and solving problems related to builds in production environments.

● Proactively identifies problems on the cloud platform and implements quick fixes.

● Designs, plans, and implements foundational cloud solutions with a focus on availability, performance, scalability, and reliability across all production systems.

● Configures and maintains cloud infrastructure to ensure all cloud environments are optimized and efficient.

● Partners with other teams to ensure technical feasibility of potential solutions and to ensure alignment with implementation timelines.

● Collaborates with teams responsible for core technology services, Enterprise Architecture, Enterprise Networking, Identity, Security, to ensure alignment on roadmap and strategy across the organization.

● Provides subject matter expertise when consulting with value streams regarding their implementation of applications on cloud platforms.

● Manages cloud infrastructure in a proactive manner ensuring that appropriate validation and testing measures are in place for remediation.

● Ensures adherence to company policy, compliance regulations, and security standards through policy enforcement in the tenant root management group.

● Promotes and supports a culture of compliance, risk avoidance/mitigation, and corporate accountability throughout the organization.

● Implements and manages solutions through Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to leverage least privilege access, ensure consistency, and provide an audit trail for changes.

● Follows and drives coding standards adoption established for cloud when developing or modifying Iac within CI/CD pipelines.

● Owns responsibility for triaging issues and remediating with the most effective technology implementation method.

● Creates, manages, and maintains technical documentation that resonates with engineers, architects, and leadership roles.

● Designs and implements standards for the lifecycle management of cloud resources and supporting services.

● Develops team vision to drive new capabilities against a published roadmap, in conjunction with management.

● Ensures that proposed and existing systems are aligned with organizational standards, goals, and objectives.

● Assists in release planning and sprint scoping conversations to ensure understanding and ownership of task assignment and dependent activities.

● Provides accurate and timely estimates of work breakdown schedules for PI and sprint commitments.

● Acknowledges and resolves incidents and requests within defined SLAs.

● Collaborates closely with Engineering and Development teams to identify the root cause of issues on the cloud platform.

● Mentors and provides training across the organization to drive teams to support cloud applications owned by their value stream.

● Provides feedback, proposes solutions, and suggests improvements.

REQUIRED

● 8+ years’ experience with enterprise infrastructure and software systems.

● 3+ years’ experience creating IaC leveraging stacks including, but not limited to, Terraform, BiCep, ARM.

● 3+ years’ managing enterprise cloud platforms.

● 3+ years’ experience implementing information security standards and compliance regulations.

● Certified SME on public cloud with Azure as preferred vendor.

● SME leveraging CLI including, but not limited to, Azure CLI, GCP CLI.

● Experience with CI/CD and IaC tooling, such as Azure DevOps/Terraform, at a SME level and being an evangelist for change.

● Strong understanding of Costco and/or industry Information Security policies and practices.

● Hands-on technical design and implementation of IaC solutions in Cloud platforms.

● Experience with Cloud Networking and foundational engineering including connectivity configurations to onPrem, configuration of Cloud Firewalls, Domain Controllers and proxies.

● Experience in tackling problems of load, scale, and optimizations of sophisticated large-scale deployments.

● Experience with infrastructure architecture; modern application architectures with emphasis on designing and implementing, high availability, scalability, and performance solutions.

● Experience leveraging agile methodologies for delivery.

● Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to logically think through problem situations.

● High integrity, accountability, a positive attitude, and willingness to do what it takes to make the team successful.

● Team player; good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

● Deep understanding of integration and API concepts, patterns, and technologies.

● Experience with XML, SOAP, REST, GRPC, PowerShell, and github.

● Able to support off-hours work as required, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis.

Pay Ranges:

Level 3 - $130,000 - $160,000

Level 4 - $150,000 - $190,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
