Job Summary:

The Medical Coordinator provides leadership, planning and coordination of the in-house veterinary clinic to support operational excellence. The Medical Coordinator provides leadership and direction to the in-house medical clinic staff to support operational efficiency.

The Medical Coordinator will ensure the clinic and clinic staff maintain compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations. The Medical Coordinator will support Columbia Second Chance leadership by facilitating communication, coordination, and collaboration of services.

Role & Responsibilities:

· Provides direct supervision of clinic staff/volunteers.

· Creates work schedules to ensure proper coverage.

· Assigns duties to staff and volunteers.

· Ensures adherence to organizational policies and procedures.

· Maintains appropriate clinic staffing levels to ensure all positions are effectively coverd.

· Recruits, trains, evaluates and develops current and new staff and volunteers.

· Ensures Veternarian(s) are appropriately credentialed to work within scope of practice.

· Oversees the operations of the in-house medical clinic.

· Oversees the flow of animal patients to ensure quality of care and coordinates the scheduling of care to ensure all animals receive applicable internal or external care; schedules animals for surgery at designated external clinics, as needed.

· Triages medical and general animal care requests for vet visits; conducts assessment and determines animal care plan and appropriateness for in-house clinic or referral to partner clinic for urgent care services.

· Develops marketing strategy and development of informational materials on releveant topics for educational purposes.

· Provides consultation to management, fosters and committees within expertise.

· Implements, communicates and trains stakeholders on applicable policies and approved protocols; coordinates with Second Chance Trainer, Dog Committee, Cat Committee and Board of Directors on proper protocols and animale welfare placement decisions.

· Manages clinic inventory by establishing par levels and ensures purchases are within defined budget; ensures agreed upon prescriptions, OTC medications and vaccines are in-stock and accessible.

· Ensures medical supplies are stored in compliance with applicable regulations and laws, creates loss protection strategy.

· Educates incoming foster families and volunteers on animal(s) medical needs and provides training on how to administer applicable medications properly.

· Communicates with fosters to provide updates on assigned animals as directed by the staff Veterinarian.

· Monitors foster behavior, communicated health concerns needed address and reports findings to the Director of Operations.

· Ensures that all clinic records are kept up to date.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

· Associate degree in Licensed Veterinary Technology or Veterinary Technology or a minimum of 5 years of small animal medical experience in a small animal clinic setting.

· Must be 21 years of age or older.

· Possess a valid driver's license.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Knowledge of animal welfare, dog and cat behavior, and care in a medical setting.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· Excellent organizational skills.

· Attention to detail.

· Ability to multi-task and prioritize work.

Occupational Hazards

· Animal hair and dandruff, possibility of domestic animal bites. Exposure to potentially communicable diseases, such as ringworm, rabies, etc.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to lift 40 lbs., bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and other strenuous activities on an occasional basis.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,000.00 - $37,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
