Job Summary:
The Field Safety Manager is responsible for managing the Safety, Health, and Security within an assigned region. This proactive and positive approach will be reflected through hands-on engagement and training of drivers and operations staff within an assigned region, ensuring positive performance against specific safety metrics. The Field Manager, Safety, Health, & Security will be responsible for maintaining and building upon Hub Group’s current safety culture within the assigned region and have knowledge of all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the transportation industry.
Major Responsibilities:
Safety Management within assigned region
Conduct safety observations and commercial driver ride-along
Site Audits and reviews within assigned region
Commercial Equipment inspections
Safety Trainer and training management within region
Safety meeting management
Accident, incident and injury investigation and root cause analysis within assigned region
Respond to accident reporting after hours, as assigned
Security incident investigation
Oversee cargo and terminal security, including assessing risk and exposure and ensuring proper security processes are in place and adhered to
Analyzed and report trending of “at-risk behaviors” within assigned region
developing targeted communications specific to addressing identified risks
Manage driver and location Performance Improvement Plans, via a robust online safety environment, using a Driver and Location Scorecard
Identify driver practices or conduct that raises safety concerns
Facilitate and document formal improvement plans
Document results, set standards and best practices, and track for sustained improvement
Manage regulatory compliance within your assigned region
Build and maintain a "safety culture" that demonstrates a continuous commitment to safety
Minimum Qualifications:
Skills required:
Ability to coach and demonstrate team leadership.
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and decision-making skills.
Tolerance for working outside in various weather conditions being occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold and/or humid conditions.
Attention to detail.
Demonstrated skill in making independent decisions in support of company policies and procedures.
Ability to manage multiple locations within an established region.
Available for periodic after hour shift rotation as assigned.
Experience utilizing various Electronic Logging Devices.
An understanding of cargo securement procedures and regulations.
Ground transport and shipment Hazardous Material experience.
Experience utilizing Video Event Recorders (VER) in a commercial vehicle environment.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience with a Bachelor’s degree in safety, risk management, business, transportation, logistics, supply chain or related field preferred.
At least 5 years of experience in the transportation industry.
Certified Director of Safety, not required, but preferred.
Demonstrated investigative successes.
