Job Description
We are SEMRHI, serving the needs of Rural Mississippi. SEMRHI is a network of Community Health Centers that has been serving the needs of Southeast Mississippi for almost 45 years. In addition, we serve the needs of many of the school districts and students in the area, including those attending Petal.
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Certified Medical Assistant performs a variety of tasks related to patient care and follow-up. As a team member, the Certified Medical Assistant will demonstrate knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the staff, patients, families and visitors of all age groups, while being sensitive to their culture and religious beliefs.
Job Responsibilities:
Prepare patients in a timely and appropriate manner
Demonstrate the ability to access and assist patients in emergency situations
Interviews patients, measure vital signs, including weight, height, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and document correct information in medical record
Assist the provider as needed during exams
Update and maintain all digital client records
Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies and maintain instruments
Anticipates and prepares supplies needed for procedures to expedite patient care
Clean dirty instruments and properly prepare them for sterilization
Triage and process messages from patients and front office staff to physician
Instruct patients on collection of any necessary samples and tests
Assist with lab testing and phlebotomy
Clean rooms at the end of day, wipe down tables, chairs and countertops
Willingness to assist providers, nurses and the front office as needed
Prompt in following the provider's orders
Demonstrate flexibility in job duties
Demonstrate appropriate documentation in the EMR
Possess the knowledge to operate clinical equipment
Demonstrate a caring and compassionate attitude toward patients and staff
Effectively communicates with the provider
Adheres to infection-control policies using universal precautions at all times and PPE as appropriate
Assist with medical record scanning as needed
Job Requirements:
Current Certified Medical Assistant
Current Phlebotomy certificate
One year of clinical work experience
Current CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association
Basic knowledge of clinical operations
Demonstrates skills in written and oral communication
Ability to comprehend and perform duties with minimal supervision
Ability to prioritize work and accept constructive criticism
Ability to prepare reports and follow-up as necessary
Must continuously listen, visualize and have dexterity and eye-hand coordination
Must have full range of body motion
Must frequently sit, reach, use both right and left forearm rotation, walk, stand, kneel and twist
Physical and Other Requirements:
Must be able to pass criminal background check, drug screen and physical assessment
Must occasionally kneel, twist and have ability to grasp firmly
Must lift and carry, push and pull in excess of 50lbs
