Reporting to the Chief Power Engineer, the 2nd Class Power Engineer who is a maintenance/relief engineer is responsible for safe and efficient operation of the steam plant, ancillary equipment, quality control and testing, good manufacturing practices (GMP), reporting and safety. They are responsible by providing relief to other engineers when they are off or sick, maintenance, and troubleshooting for the boiler systems including the boilers, air compressors, softeners, water treatment systems, air dryer and chemicals. Helping Chief Engineer when and where required. Should be flexible in taking over shifts and changing schedule. Duties also include monitoring and logging data points as required, calculating efficiencies, communicating effectively with coworkers and management as required to ensure good operations throughout the area of responsibility.

Core Functions:

Responsible for the relief and maintenance.

Responsible for the safe operation of the steam plant and ancillary equipment when on shift

Help Shift Engineer in his daily activities

Review operations with previous shift operator and supervisor

Monitor and ensure that all fire protection systems are in proper and safe working order

Help in Tracking and logging all Gas Readings, Water treatment system readings, Hydro Readings, Air compressor readings, all plant steam produced and consumption

Help in getting gas forecasts to gas supplier

Help in performs water analysis on boilers and cooling towers

Help in completing daily, weekly, monthly log report

Help in maintain the chemical inventory

Perform preventative and regular maintenance on all equipment within the position’s area of responsibility as well as conduct weekly test runs on the safety and standby equipment

Help in monitoring the safety procedures

Help in check safety equipment

Provide vacation coverage for other operators

Test run the safety and standby equipment weekly

Help in checking the boilers, air compressors, softeners, Ro, multimedia filters, wastewater aeration equipment, air dryer, chemicals

Team work attitude

Help in checking chemical inventory, and give requests for the chemicals needed

Should be a team environment personnel

Have a good mechanical work attitude

Maintain the boiler operator's logbook

Responsible to work safely and to comply with all of Bunge’s safety rules and procedures

Full knowledge of and compliance with all safety policies and procedures

Full knowledge of and compliance with related Good Manufacturing Practices

Key member of the plant Emergency Action Plan response team

Maintain the equipment as directed by the chief engineer

Skill/Experience Requirements:

Valid Manitoba Second Class Power (Operating) Engineer Certificate

Basic knowledge of PC applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Flexibility to work overtime based on operational demands

Experience as a shift engineer in a first class plant will be an asset

Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

Demonstrated oral and written communication skills

Ability to work independently but also work effectively within a team

Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces

Multi-task and prioritize among different projects and initiatives under time constraints and deadlines
