Job Title: Counselor- Elementary

Reports to: Principal

Dept.: Campus as assigned

Exemption Status/: Exempt/Professional

Calendar Days: 192 days

Pay Grade: AP2

Primary Purpose:

Plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance to campus assigned, including counseling services. Provide a proactive developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Master's Degree from accredited University in School Counseling

Valid Texas School Counseling Certificate Special Knowledge/Skills:

Three years successful teaching

Teaching Experience at the elementary level (preferred) Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Teaches school developmental guidance curriculum to students.

Helps teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum.

Provides guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and

Counsels individuals and small groups with identified needs or concerns

Consults with parents, teachers, administrators and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.

Works with school personnel and school district residents to obtain resources for students.

Uses an effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services.

Interpret standardized test results and assessment data to guide students in individual goal setting and planning

Acts as a student advocate, leader, collaborator and systems change agent.

Plans school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs, priorities, and program objectives.

Develops and coordinates a continuing evaluation of guidance program and makes changes based on findings.

Compiles, maintains and files all required physical and computerized reports, records and other documents.

Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.

Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations.

Maintains a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.

Participates in staff development and continuing education opportunities to improve job-related skills and research to identify best practices in implementing a school counseling program.

Communicates effectively with colleagues, students and parents.

Provide training and consultation to foster student educational, career, personal and social development.

Models behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.

Participates in professional development, department meetings and special events as assigned.

Articulates the school's mission to the community and solicits its support in realizing the mission.

Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.

Performs other duties as assigned

Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional physical restraint of students to control behavior

Environment: Work inside, may work outside; work must be performed on-site.

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; may work prolonged or irregular hours
