Job Summary:

The Instrumentation Technician are tasked to apply technical expertise daily to ensure the safe and reliable operation of instrument equipment. This is accomplished by executing assigned work according to plan and schedule, noting any job plan deviations, and providing input on improvement opportunities

Under general supervision, responsibilities include:

Responsible for using technical training and experience to evaluate and repair conventional instrumentation equipment in assigned area.

Works closely with the Supervisor, Maintenance to improve reliability of instrumented systems, foster teamwork, and ensure a safe work environment.

Performs inspection and repairs on control valves, level transmitters, flow meters, and pressure transmitters.

Performs preventive maintenance on process instrumentation, (Pressure switches, level switches, flow switches, gas detectors, BTU analyzer and oxygen analyzers)

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for using technical training and experience to evaluate and repair

Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers and promoting a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.

Provide technical expertise to assist supervision and operations in the installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of unit instrumentation equipment (electronic and pneumatic). Equipment includes instrumentation such as thermocouples, RTD's, flow / level / pressure / temperature transmitters, control valves, flow / level / pressure / temperature switches.

Provide technical expertise to assist supervision and operations in the installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of unit analyzer equipment. Equipment includes analyzers such as BTU analyzers, oxygen analyzers and combustible gas detectors.

Follow all necessary safety procedures and practices to isolate, clear, and work on plant equipment.

Provide updates on job progress and any problems encountered in completing the defined scope of work.

Respond to tasks as directed by maintenance supervision with the appropriate sense of urgency to minimize impact to process units.

Identify and implement reliability driven improvements. This may include participation in site reliability teams.

Maintains electronic and paper documentation for Preventive Maintenance and Mechanical Integrity tasks.

Uses of all types of testing equipment i.e. signal generators, multi-meters, thermocouple simulators, Honeywell testing devices. Yamatake communicators, and the 475/375 Hart communicators and Trex.

Repairs Fisher control valves and positioners such as the (A Body, E Body, Butterfly, Ball, quarter turn. 546 I/P and 3582/3610J positioners.

Participate in emergency call-outs

Promote a safe working environment at all times, follow all Safe Work Practices.

Demonstrates competence with all job roles and specific knowledge skills listed that is above expectations for the Instrument Technician, Senior position.

Fully qualified craft technician.

Performs work assignments with minimum supervision.

Demonstrates all performance/behaviors listed under Technician position in addition to the following: Demonstrated abilities on craft specific tasks beyond that expected of the IEA Technician level, Demonstrated a higher level of skill in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing of all process equipment related to their craft, and Demonstrated ability to aide and mentor less qualified technicians.

Responsible for using technical training and experience to evaluate and repair conventional instrumentation equipment in assigned area.

Works closely with the Supervisor, Maintenance to improve reliability of instrumented systems, foster teamwork, and ensure a safe work environment.

Performs inspection and repairs on control valves, level transmitters, flow meters, and pressure transmitters.

Performs troubleshooting tasks to diagnose instrumentation problems in the field.

Capable of reading and understanding P&ID’S, PFD’S, and perform maintenance tasks using instrument loop sheets.

Required Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED equivalency is required

Minimum of 5 years of plant maintenance experience in the instrumentation and analyzer field performing calibrations, loop checks, troubleshooting, etc.

Preferred candidates will have a Level 2 Certificate in Instrumentation, Associates or higher degree in Instrumentation, or military instrument training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ability to demonstrate craft relevant aptitude

Ability to work with hazardous and/or flammable chemicals (with proper safety precautions, training, and equipment).

Ability to work around and/or manually interact with heavy equipment.

Demonstrates all performance behaviors listed below in addition to the following: exceptional technical and or analytical skills and performs unique tasks beyond that expected of the position.

Fisher control valve disassembly and reassembly

Foxboro smart transmitter knowledge

Basic computer skills (Microsoft office)
