As a member of the Knowledge Management (KM) Department, the Competitive Intelligence Analyst will research the firm’s clients, prospects, key industries, law firm competitors and potential markets to help drive the firm’s business expansion, delivering research and analysis in succinct written and verbal reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Analyze the firm's clients, prospects, key industries serviced, law firm competitors and potential markets for business expansion opportunities.

Conduct extensive research on current and potential clients using internal and external data sources to support client development and other firm functions.

Communicate results of research and analysis through written reports and verbal communication.

Monitor vast amount of news and litigation filings to provide practice group leaders with actionable intelligence.

Keep abreast of news and events related to firm clients/industries/verticals/competitors; proactively distill and distribute intelligence when appropriate.

Contribute to the development of advanced current awareness services relating to clients, targets, industries, competitors and other topics for business development and market visibility opportunities.

Identify market trends, industry developments, client movements and other relevant client news to provide actionable business information to departments, practice groups and firm management.

Work with other KM research teams to efficiently address a wide variety of research-related tasks from across the firm.

Respond to inquiries from attorneys and other internal customers from across the firm. Effectively communicate KM capabilities and resources.

Assist management with developing a highly functioning competitive intelligence research and business analysis group by contributing ideas and suggestions.

Compile and track Competitive Intelligence requests and other administrative tasks. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:

Additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS (EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES):

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics or related field. MBA, JD or MLS is preferred. Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a legal, corporate, professional services or academic environment required, with law firm experience strongly preferred. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Advanced research skills across a variety of media, with an emphasis on online research.

Ability to quickly develop proficiency in new information resources. Experience with corporate databases such as Westlaw, S&P Capital IQ, D&B, Pitchbook, Bloomberg Law, MonitorSuite, Intelligize and Hoovers a plus.

Ability to quickly develop proficiency in productivity-enhancing technology tools.

Ability to synthesize relevant information needed for high-level and business development decision-making, and ability to succinctly communicate research findings in a clear and concise manner.

Self-motivated, detail oriented and organized with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline driven environment.

Ability to multitask and effectively prioritize competing projects.

Strong communication skills with particular emphasis on written communication.

Proficiency using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word and Adobe Acrobat.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary work: Exertion of physical strength to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds. Work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

VISUAL ACUITY

Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
