Job Summary:

The Process Technology Engineer is the ultimate steward of one or more technologies practiced at TPC. The primary purpose of the Process Technology Engineer is to optimize the process through advanced optimization methods and to identify/develop ideas to drive step change improvements. As the technology owner, the Process Technology Engineer leads efforts to support production from troubleshooting and optimization of existing unit operations to spearheading new and developing technology evaluation/design of new processes and systems as well as commissioning and start-up of new facilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop unit production expertise, continuously building a body of technical knowledge around unit operations and processes

Develop and maintain operational models in order to understand opportunities for process improvement under any given set of circumstances (production demand, feed composition, catalyst age, etc.)

Deliver tools and processes to enhance performance tracking and drive improvements

Develop high level project scopes (option and benefit analysis) for unit related improvement projects

Provide technical leadership to bridge R&D and Corporate Development concepts with Production for evaluation and implementation of new projects

Actively support PSM programs via participation in PHA, LOPA, MOC, RCA, resolution of action items, and other activities to ensure safe and reliable operation and regulatory compliance

Leads technical teams and multi-disciplinary groups in evaluations of complex problems and issues relating operating processes and assets

Develops, assesses the feasibility, soundness, and safety of designs and proposes solutions based on sound engineering judgment

Leads front end loading and scope development for new projects and processes, transition to detailed engineering and on to start up

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering

Minimum of 10 years of experience in the chemical engineering field which includes experience in a refinery or petrochemical plant with unit operation simulation and process optimization experience in either a production or process engineering role

Basic skills in simulation tools including ASPEN+, HYSIS, and or PROSIM

Communication and leadership skills with cross-functional teams

Ability to manage ambiguity, communicate and lead effectively in cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications:

PE Licensure preferred but not required

Butadiene or partial hydrogenation process experience in either Operations and/or Process Engineering

Specific experience with fixed bed reactors, industrial catalysis processes, distillation, and/or extractive distillation
