TBD Position: Summer School Elementary School Counselor

Reports to: Summer School Principal

Work Days - 2 to 3 days per week

Administrators and teachers will report June 6, 2024 and June 7, 2024 from 8:30am - 12:30pm to prepare for the students to arrive the following week.

Student dates for summer school are June 10, 2024 to July 5, 2024 from 8:30am - 12:30pm, with Juneteenth and July 4th observed.

Description: Responsible for the development and implementation of the guidance program; assist and support students with concerns and/or problems; provide assistance to students in the development of sound decision making skills; serve as a resource for students, parents and staff; coordinate testing and scheduling for students

NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

Qualifications

Valid Ohio school counselor certificate or license, as issued by the Ohio State Department of Education, Office of Teacher Certification and Licensure, pursuant to ORC 3319.22 to 3319.31 or in accordance with standards authorized by law.

Ability to provide leadership and direction and to work cooperatively with other professional staff.

Ability to maintain effective relationships with teachers, administrators, staff, parents and community members.

Ability to communicate effectively in written or oral form to staff, students, parents, and community members.

Essential Functions

Ensure safety of students

Maintain accurate and complete records as required by the building administrator

Provide guidance to students to promote their welfare and proper educational development

Assists in the preparation and administration of standardized and/required local and state tests

Attend meetings and in-services as required

Assist students in the transition from middle school and middle school to high school

Attend parent/teacher conferences

Provide referrals to community agencies for students with special needs

Make provisions to be available to students and parents for educational related purposes outside the regular school day when necessary

Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of interim reports, report cards, test results and conferences

Counsel with colleagues, students and parents

Be an active member of the school's meetings relative to special education

Keep abreast of current IDEA and 504 rules and regulations

Use proper forms for the IDEA and 504 process

Serve on the crisis intervention team

Aid students in the course selection process

Participate in career development activities

Make home visitations when necessary

Support the implementation of behavioral modification programs

Serve as the district liaison with CACY and any other assigned organizations

Assist Principal with administration, ordering, and general implementation of testing/proficiency program and interpretation of test results

Participation with the administrative team to plan, develop and implement effective guidance programs and curricular offerings

Develop and implement programs to support school and community needs, i.e., children of divorce support groups, etc.

Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents

Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student records

Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation

Attend meetings and in-services as required

Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective communication and conferences

Observe ethics of the profession; exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability, sound judgment, and responsibilities as a mandated reporter

Maintain record of student progress

Assist in the creation of a learning environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students

Notify parents and administration if student is not meeting educational goals

Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee
