Background: Our district is committed to ensuring that all students have the opportunity, upon leaving high school, to choose from a wide variety of options, including four-year colleges and universities, technical education, or a skilled career. In order to provide more intensive services to select students, we are looking for Substitute 7-12 Counselors who:

BELIEVE:

• All students can succeed

• Culture and language are teaching and learning assets

• Schools, parents, and the community are partners for the success of all students

• In the shared values, beliefs, and attitudes that inspire others to higher levels of performance

POSSESS:

• Background in and knowledge of 7-12 Counseling, with an emphasis on access for all students

• Experience in meeting the counseling/placement needs of all students, including English language learners, students in the lowest bands of achievement and students who are at risk and/or credit deficient

ARE PREPARED TO:

• Access and analyze student data in relation to academic achievement and college readiness

• Assist students in the selection of courses consistent with graduation and UC/CSU acceptance

• Design and monitor individual student academic programs which will ensure every student has access to post-secondary education and career opportunities

• Participate in planning and implementing school events that support student academic achievement and post-secondary opportunities which may include evening events

• Provide students and parents with support in applying for colleges and universities and assist families with the identification of resources for monetary assistance

• Access and analyze data to place students in appropriate intervention programs including companion classes, summer programs and credit recovery classes

• Act as a resource for teachers, parents and administrators to identify student needs, resolve student issues and problems, and provide district-approved outside referral sources when appropriate

• Assist in the identification of alternative pathways for credit deficient students

• Work with students and their families to meet student needs, including conducting parent/family outreach, regularly conducting home visits and intervening to reduce/eliminate truancy

• Work collaboratively with personnel at various school sites to develop plans to meet student needs

• Work collaboratively with parent outreach, AVID, Child Welfare and Attendance and other district departments/programs to ensure that student and community needs are being met

Requirements:

• An earned Master's Degree

• Valid PPS Counseling credential (CTC Description Showing Counseling)

Salary:

• Substitute Counselor - Minimum $161 per day

Substitute Counselor is a long-term position that could lead to future employment.
