Job Title: Histotechnician/Histotechnologist - Edison, NJ

Job Description: The Histotechnician/or Histotechnologist performs all laboratory technical duties related to producing histo-pathological slides. This position requires high-quality embedding, microtomy, grossing, tissue processing, H&E staining, immunohistochemistry, and special staining.

Schedule: 8-hour shift

Evening shift/Overnight shift

Medical specialties: Pathology

Responsibilities:

• Accepts laboratory specimens from the accessioning section that will be utilized for processing in the histopathology department.

• Evaluate the acceptability criteria for each specimen and check for correct labeling, specimen container, and source.

• Performs tissue embedding following established procedures.

• Performs routine cutting of paraffin blocks on a rotary microtome.

• Store specimens for future retrieval if necessary.

• Performs reagent QC on routinely used reagents.

• Assists with other non-technical duties within the laboratory as requested by the assistant manager/manager to meet the immediate needs of the laboratory.

Requirements

• Associate's Degree or Bachelor's in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics

• 1-3 years of experience.

• ASCP certification.

• State Licensure where applicable (CA, FL, and NY require state licensing).

• Meets the requirements for Testing Personnel under CLIA regulations (42 CFR, part 493.)
