Substitute School Counselor

A substitute school counselor is a professional who is responsible to provide comprehensive guidance services to each pupil for use in coping with developmental and academic demands; and to help maintain a supportive and productive learning environment for each student.

Responsibilities

Provide general school counseling and guidance services in group and individual settings.

Implement programs dealing with decision-making, conflict resolution, self-esteem, coping strategies, etc.

Provide classroom guidance focusing on post-high school planning, career exploration, family and/or peer relationships and decision-making.

Address issues that impact students at risk of failing to attain their full academic potential.

Serve as the school-based resource for dealing with drop-out prevention, substance abuse, pregnancy, homelessness, and crisis prevention/intervention.

Gather and disseminate information on critical issues such as student substance abuse, suicide prevention, teen pregnancy, and homelessness.

Prepare and maintains student counseling records.

Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students.

Demonstrate flexibility in performing other related duties as assigned. Qualifications
