PepsiCo R&D is looking for R&D Packaging Lab Technician to join on initial 12 months Fixed term contract in Leicester.

Job Purpose

Manage Packaging Laboratory by maintaining the capability, safety and required condition of Packaging lab equipment and facilities, provide lab testing services to R&D Packaging following approved test methods and procedures ensuring work safety.

In this role you will be responsible for lab equipment regular maintenance, repair in case of damage and cleaning, make mock- ups of packaging formats using prototyping capabilities of the laboratory at existing equipment and manually as well as keeping contact with US R&D Lab using shared software, databases to enable work alignment with Foods Packaging Lab community worldwide.

You will primarily support the EU PepsiCo Packaging team in Foods Business for materials and sustainability.

Responsibilities

Support the packaging development team on various lab activities, such as executing bench analysis as designed by packaging Engineers and running process equipment as needed.

Identify functional properties of materials, as well support and development for new analytical techniques for evaluation.

Support local Packaging team with bag forming and slitting of film for line trials and other activities.

Ensure labs comply with GMP guidelines and established operating sanitation standards.

Coordinate outside service of equipment maintenance as needed.

Actively commit to and participate in our lab and corporate safety programs: including following all safety protocols and procedures.

Manage packaging materials and lab supply inventory, as well as look for innovative and time saving ideas for the team to improve functionality and time management in the lab.

Must have ability to partner with colleagues to manage day to day priority changes.

Demonstrates high sense of urgency for results.

Provides excellent customer service.

Contributes to training and development of others.

Effectively and independently manages his/her time and priorities.

Sample preparation for consumer testing.

Make mock ups manually and using existing equipment.

Coordinate shipping in support of Packaging Engineers and Lab.

Other projects as assigned by Manager.

Minimum travel might be required to support packaging technicians and engineers.

Keep contact with Plano lab colleagues to ensure alignment on lab instruments test methods, using shared software and databases.

Communicate with lab equipment suppliers on regular maintenance and required upgrade of equipment.

Maintain clean storage of samples in a lab.

Qualifications

At least 1 year experience in laboratory as technician, in Packaging test or Prototyping laboratory - advantageous

Minimum 5 GCSE’s – including Maths & Science or equivalent in experience

Experience in usage and maintenance of packaging lab equipment-- advantageous

Experience of Food R&D/ Packaging industry

Good verbal and written communication skills required

Good organizational and time management skills

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change.

Knowledgeable of GMPS and lab safety -- advantageous

Fluent in English and computer skills e.g. MS Word, MS. Excel, Power point
