Scope:

The Junior EHSS Engineer has the responsibility to ensure that company policies adhere to municipal, provincial and federal regulations. Will conduct inspection and record various EHSS related equipment such as fire extinguishers, exit signs, security doors, forklift and other lifting devices, as well as safety mechanism of various manufacturing equipment and devices. May be exposed to hazardous materials while performing daily job duties. Will actively participate in ongoing hazardous material, chemical handling and various EHS related training as required.

Duties:

Stay current with all government requirements for a manufacturing environment.

Always ensure the company is prepared to submit the appropriate document

Encourage and advocate for safer work equipment, materials and supplies.

Conduct safety audits, support facility inspections and audits to monitor and detect potential safety, health and environmental hazards.

Conduct inspections of all building areas from security systems stand-point. Perform video surveillance reviews as needed.

Coordinate health and safety programs such as WHMIS, Lead Awareness, LOTO, noise control, PPEs, and hazard assessments.

Conduct various EHS training.

Participate in JHSC, ESC (Environmental Steering Committee), industrial hygiene and job task analysis.

Active involvement in ISO 14001 compliance audits and activities.

Formulate root cause analysis in Environmental Corrective Actions.

Participate in company’s project engineering designing activities.

Collect process data such as air velocity, air contaminants and noise monitoring.

Develop emission summary for government reporting.

Respond to chemical spills and support the emergency response team as needed.

Help drive cost savings and pollution prevention measures.

Report out to management and teams on KPIs in line with EHSS objectives/targets.

Development of environmental, health, safety and security communications.

Essential Education, Experience and Skills:

University Degree in Chemical engineering, Industrial engineering or Environmental engineering.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.

Able to communicate effectively in both printed and verbal formats.

Able to work independently and as part of a team.

Must be familiar with Environmental, OHSA and TDG regulations.

One year experience working in an environmental/safety role in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Previous EHSS experience preferred.
