Job Summary:

Outpatient staff pharmacists are responsible for preparing and distributing medications at Baptist Health Louisville Outpatient Pharmacy; evaluating, inputting, and verifying new medication orders; assisting providers and other health care professionals by serving as a drug information resource; monitoring and managing medication regimens per protocol or per consult; and managing pharmacy inventory. The staff outpatient pharmacists are accountable for supporting the management, oversight, and operation of all aspects within the pharmacy including supervising pharmacy technicians and students.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time.

1. Interprets, profiles, and dispenses outpatient prescriptions.

2. Initiates, documents, and participates in department activities that promote positive patient outcomes.

3. Maintains safe and clean working environment through compliance with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the Kentucky state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration

4. Administer appropriate vaccines in accordance with Kentucky’s laws and regulations

5. Help perform quality assurance checks such as including monitoring technician tasks and ensuring daily documentation complete. Fills out appropriate documentation of these activities as required.

6. Communicates with Pharmacy Manager when needed and in appropriate time frame.

7. Supervises department or assigned work area operations in absence of Pharmacy Manager

8. Assists in orientation and training of new pharmacists, technicians, students and residents.

9. Handles patient/staff complaints and computer and insurance claims processing issues.

10. Monitors and coordinates workflow with established delivery schedules.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:

A. Graduate of an accredited College of Pharmacy with BS in Pharmacy.

B. Kentucky Pharmacist Registration or eligible.
