Role Overview and Responsibilities

Introduction

The Purchasing Manager serves as the site lead for all aspects related to Purchasing, Vendor Management and Raw Material Inventory Control. You will manage the development of the supply base to meet or exceed the strategic operation requirements of the business. You will champion, progress and implement supplier objectives, including supplier relationship management and supply chain management best practices whilst driving quality improvement & cost reduction initiatives across the range of materials/components and services through continuous improvement or resourcing.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure the correct quantity & quality of materials are purchased from approved sources, at the most effective price, to be available to achieve the revenue plan for the business.

Negotiate and manage all purchasing activities & supply contracts which deliver optimum value to the business. To include inventory management actions such as KANBANs, VMIs etc. and ensure suppliers meet their ongoing contractual obligations.

Minimise surplus inventory by effective control of demand management, MOQs, leadtime management, and EOL purchases, obtaining the relevant authority levels and following department procedure before pledging the Company’s credit.

Manage supplier performance in key metric areas including, but not limited to Quality, Delivery, Responsiveness and Cost.

Develop and manage appropriate supplier monitoring systems to measure the performance of the supply base and drive continuous improvement.

Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.

Perform regular account management reviews with strategic suppliers.

Identify alternative sources of supply to support continuous improvement. In collaboration with purchasing and technical staff select new and alternative materials/services that provide a technical and/or commercial advantage.

Support new business opportunities by managing the selection of suppliers by assessment of their quality capabilities and system effectiveness before the placement of business.

Support the Quality Department as requested in maintaining adequate supplier records and completion of audits.

Manage the entire supply base to ensure all suppliers are registered and/or compliant to the quality system requirements of ISO9001:2008.

Escalation of quality failures within the supplier organisation to secure the required focus and response, supported by the supplier quality engineer.

Where necessary, in conjunction with the supplier, agree corrective action plans and ensure these are executed effectively with the active engagement of the supplier, either remotely or through supplier visits.

Manage claim system to ensure costs incurred by the company through poor supplier quality or failure to meet their commitments or contractual obligations are recovered.

Ensure compliance to all relevant legislation in accordance with the latest changes, including but not limited to ESG, Conflicts Minerals, ITAR, EAR.

Contribute to the formulation of Company purchasing policies and ensure their correct interpretation and implementation.

Manage, support & develop the staff within the Purchasing Department.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Core Requirements

Extensive knowledge of modern purchasing strategies

Strong negotiation skills.

Effective sourcing skills.

Effective working knowledge of quality tools and concepts such as; APQP, MSA and SPC (statistics) manuals and manufacturing process (lean manufacturing), with ability to teach and facilitate these tools and concepts to suppliers.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent written & verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively manage relationships with people inside and outside of the organisation.

Excellent organisational skills & attention to detail

Excellent interpersonal & leadership skills with the ability to influence and motivate colleagues at all levels, to drive change.

Effective team-working & relationship building skills.

Ability to manage conflict.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and SAP ERP

Desireable Skills and Experience

Comprehensive knowledge of purchasing best practice.

Degree (or CIPS equivalent) qualified with at least 5 years experience in a supply chain / purchasing leadership role, in a manufacturing environment.
