Department: Baseball Operations - Player Development Reports to: Manager, Player Development Classification: Part-Time/Non-Exempt (Seasonal)

Summary The Houston Astros are currently seeking a part-time Bullpen Catcher at the complex in West Palm Beach, FL. Expected number of hours worked per week are five (5) or less.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Play catch with and catch bullpens for minor-league pitchers.

Communicate with field staff regarding timing of bullpens for minor-league pitchers.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Ability to play catch with high-level pitchers.

Ability to catch bullpens of high-level pitchers.

Professional or collegiate playing experience is preferred.

Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

The candidate must be based in South Florida.

The candidate must be generally available to work morning hours from May to September.

Work Environment The work will largely be performed at a sports venue (indoor or outdoor- hold/cold environment) that could be heavily crowded with high activity. The position is subject to varying temperatures and weather extremes. At times the noise could become excessive.

Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances and/or climb up/down stairs; may be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, sit and/or move/lift up to 50lbs of equipment or supplies; use hands handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision. Medium strength is required.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Ability to stand for extended periods of time as well as bending, reaching, throwing, and swinging a bat.

Visual acuity to distinguish pitches and facilitate instruction.

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a part-time, seasonal position that will require the ability to work a flexible schedule, including; extended hours, evenings, weekends and holidays. Expected number of hours worked per week are five (5) or less.

Travel This position does not require travel.
