JOB SUMMARY

Under close supervision and only when consistent with local pharmacy regulations, prepares pharmacy orders for filling and compounding, and maintains work areas and stocks.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

High school graduate.

Desirable: Completion of a pharmacy technician training program with an Associate of Arts Degree, Associate of Science Degree, or Certificate of Completion.

Passed the National Pharmacy Certified Technician (CpHt) exam.

Completed the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists (ASHP) or equivalent aseptic technique course.

Experience:

Have a minimum of six months hospital pharmacy technician or related experience and a good working knowledge of pharmacy procedures; or

Have a minimum of six months pharmacy technician experience in preparing IV's.

Completed employer approved hazardous chemical handling and waste disposal training program.

Fulltime Employment:

40hrs per week. Work week is Monday thru Friday

Schedule determined by supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist performing those duties deemed acceptable by the governing State Board of Pharmacy.

2. Ensure that inventory stock levels of drug items or legend ancillary equipment are maintained at appropriate levels.

3. Ensure that all medications are checked on minimally a monthly basis for expiration dating or at each restocking.

4. Provides the pharmacist with a list of expired medications on a monthly basis.

5. Maintain any pharmacy related equipment and document appropriately, i.e., compounding devices.

6. Clean the pharmacy and compounding area per policy and procedure.

7. Under the supervision of the pharmacist, prepares the prescription for filling, checks the compounding record, gathers the necessary pharmaceuticals, stages the prescription and products for the pharmacist to check and compounds the prescription under the direct supervision of the pharmacist.

8. Maintains all related compounding records, prescription logs, and any other related files as determined by the Director of Pharmacy.

9. Performs any other related task as determined by the pharmacist or Director of Pharmacy or as determined by the State Board of Pharmacy.

10. Performs any related aseptic validation testing procedures and to keep a record of those results on file as determined by the Director of Pharmacy.

11. Maintains all compounding records and Quality Control notebook.

12. Performs daily temperature checks on refrigerator, freezer, and incubators and documents appropriately.

13. Clean and calibrate IV pumps and poles per manufacturer's guidelines (see Equipment/Service Technician job description for details).

14. Participates in IOP program.
