Responsibilities

The BCS Underwriting Assistant position is not your average Underwriting Assistant. Our Underwriting Assistants utilize the latest AI and systems technologies to assist in the administration of underwriting support functions. The work offers candidates who are new to the insurance industry an introduction to risk and exposure analysis that will lay the groundwork for a sustainable and rewarding career in underwriting or operations. Candidates will benefit from mentoring and exposure to all aspects of the business: underwriting, reinsurance, systems workflow and optimization, with the overall goal of retaining customers and developing new business opportunities.

Consistently demonstrate underwriting discipline through adherence to BCS’s underwriting approach and guidelines:

Exhibit technical knowledge regarding excess liability insurance, underwriting risk analysis, policy forms, endorsements, and IT applications.

Adhere to underwriting department policies, guidelines and authority levels.

Process new and renewal account submissions and prepare for Underwriter review.

Process binders, policies, and endorsements in a timely and accurate manner.

Evaluate coverage requests and make recommendations to the underwriter.

Perform account research as directed by the underwriter.

Assist underwriter in managing work flow and follow-up items.

Develop knowledge regarding the current book of business and assigned brokers.

Provide a high level of service at all times to both internal and external customers.

Provide Quality Review of Underwriting Technician work including roll-overs and renewal solicitations.

Assist in meeting BCS’s financial forecast plan.

Customer and Broker Relationships

Service brokers and clients to meet or exceed their expectations:

Participate in client calls with determined accounts (new or renewal) to demonstrate BCS’s value.

Develop identified broker(s) to utilize BCS’s value proposition in the positioning of new and renewal accounts.

Qualifications

4+ years of equivalent experience.

Operational skills related to process workflow; IT applications; and compliance.

Ability to build trust and gain credibility with co-workers and business partners.

Ability working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Technically competent with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Operational systems.

Personal Attributes:

Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.

Highly self-motivated and directed.

Strong customer service orientation.

Advanced time management and follow-through skills.

Detail-oriented.

Education Requirement

High School Diploma / Associate degree preferred
