Grounds Maintenance Aide – Diggs Town (Full-time) With $3,000 New Hire Payment!

About the Position NRHA seeks qualified candidates for the position of full-time Grounds Maintenance Aide. The jobholder will perform basic, routine grounds maintenance duties including but not limited to daily removing litter from grounds; seasonally trimming bushes and shrubbery; preparing areas for planting of grass, bushes, shrubbery, and trees; and seeding, planting, fertilizing, and watering grounds and plants. This full-time position is available and assigned to the Diggs Town, public housing community located at 1619 Vernon Drive in Norfolk, Virginia.

Key Responsibilities of this position include:

Picking up and removing litter from community grounds.

Removing and disposing of trash, debris, weeds, and grass clippings.

Performing routine maintenance of grounds maintenance tools and equipment.

Cleaning and storing tools and equipment.

Fueling equipment and removing, sharpening, and replacing grass mower blades.

Assisting other grounds maintenance staff in performing grounds maintenance activities.

Performing other routine and non-complex general maintenance activities as directed.

Performing other related duties as required.

About the Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have:

Some high school education necessary to perform basic reading and mathematical operations.

A minimum of one-year grounds maintenance experience.

Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience necessary to obtain the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Current VA or NC driver's license.

The candidate is expected to possess:

Basic knowledge of grounds maintenance practices.

Basic knowledge of safety procedures to be followed in grounds maintenance.

Literacy and arithmetical skills to read simple instructions and directions.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

Skill in operating or ability to be trained in operating standard grass mowers, edger’s, and related grounds maintenance equipment.

Basic oral and written communication skills to receive instructions and convey routine information.

Basic human relations skills to interact with supervisor, lead person, and housing residents; includes skill in working in a team environment.

Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in performing routine and non-complex work assignments.

NRHA will consider equivalent substitutes for education and/or experience, provided that the candidate can demonstrate that he/she has obtained the knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the job.

NRHA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The pay rate for each position is $18.00 an hour, or $37,440.00 annualized. The position also receives the full benefit package, which includes retirement; medical, dental, and vision plans; life insurance; and much more

This position qualifies for a$3,000 new hire payment paid in two installments.
