The Director of Accounting Projects leads projects for the accounting function that may arise when the need for continuous improvement, efficiency, enhancement of the Company’s internal control structure, and/or business support. This position will function temporarily as an individual contributor who from time to time may need to lead resources to complete a project within the accounting function. This Director will also be included in assisting with the development of strategic goals for the department and create accounting policies for review and implementation.

Responsibilities:

Partner with leaders within the Accounting function to establish and execute strategies to enhance accounting processes and procedures. Leverages industry knowledge and trends to evaluate existing strategies and/or processes; willing to do a range of tasks to establish the best practice before transitioning the process to the future owner.

Oversees and manages the settlement processes. Ensure transactions are accurately reflected in the financial records. Provides guidance for new or non-routine inventory transactions to ensure the financial transactions are complete and in accordance with GAAP.

Recommends policy changes, process changes or reporting improvements to achieve business goals.

Assist with the execution of the strategic vision and goals for the accounting department.

Remains abreast of emerging trends and “best practices” in the accounting field and related GAAP, SEC and other regulatory agencies and their impact on the company.

Maintains appropriate communications within area of responsibility, advising department management accordingly.

Work with business owners to document and update control matrices.

Identify process improvement opportunities, share best practices, and develop programs to strengthen internal controls and procedures.

Ensures Metroplex accounting policies and practices are in accordance with current Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Monitors changes and potential impacts to Metroplex.

Communication - Promotes communication and strong relationships between Accounting and other internal departments.

Promotes a compliant and professional team in alignment with RaceTrac and Metroplex’s core values and leadership qualities.

Perform adhoc assignments as needed.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University with a concentration in finance, business, accounting or related field of study, required

8+ years accounting experience, preferred

CPA License, preferred

Strong understanding of and working knowledge of GAAP

Prior work experience with SOX compliance including the use of process maps, development of test plans/remediation plans, SOX communication tools, and compliance reporting, preferred

Ability to influence decision making across multiple functions

Advanced experience using MS Office Suite, particularly Excel
