Responsible for researching, planning, and designing electromechanical products and systems.

Performs, directs, and coordinates activities involved in design, fabrication, operation, application, testing and production. Performs advanced engineering work, directing junior-level engineers and assisting other junior-level engineers on major projects; Applies engineering principles developing, testing, and modifying designs. Responsible for planning, coordinating and directing design, testing, quality assurance (QA), assessing vendors, and equipment.

Responsibilities

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Manages projects as a hands-on employee using technical and administrative skills to oversee and complete engineering projects. Designs and prototypes electrical assemblies, which support interdisciplinary (mechanical, electrical controls, etc.) projects.

2. Lead the design and development of PCB assemblies for existing and new product hardware design. Develops methods and procedures for testing products or systems to ensure products and systems conform to engineering and customer specifications.

3. Lead all module failure mode avoidance development including subsystem DFMEA development, failure mode avoidance reviews and providing input from current module/system experiences.

4. PCB area estimation, power dissipation, component stress analysis

6. Troubleshoot digital circuits. Perform Electrical simulations.

7. Manage component specifications and support engineering drawings, and release parts and subsystems for production document control

8. Creation of test reports, specifications, and competitor investigations

9. Technical contact for EE activity for development of new products and exiting products related to electronics and wiring for core products.

10. Research, design, development, testing and support of the electronic hardware components used within new and existing products, production support as needed.

11. Be competent in the use of a computer design package for schematic capture and simulation (Altium preferred), general PC based tools, including Word and Excel

12. Produce quality documentation in support of manufacturing operations and product certification.

13. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams from design conception through verification

testing of the system, ensuring designs are global, scalable, and reliable.

14. Researches, assesses, and validates the capabilities of equipment, technology choices or systems that are to be used in the product development process meet the product requirements. Develops trade matrices to assist in the down selection process.

15. Assists in all facets of the regulatory approvals process, including participating in component and system level design reviews, test plan preparation, issue troubleshooting /mitigation.

16. Designs, executes, and manages tests to collect statistically significant data to ensure technical specifications and product requirements are met.

17. Proficient in using computer-based data acquisition and processing; A working knowledge of statistics for data characterization and hypothesis testing is required.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations; Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

3. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions: Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables; Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

4. Knowledge of design: Design of digital circuits, microprocessors, MOSFET, IGBT, H-Bridge, power supplies, AC/DC. Knowledge of SW Engineering and coding/scripting.

5. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; Five years related experience and/or training; or Masters and 6+ years’ experience; or PhD and 4+ years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
