The Pediatric Cardiology Service Line Administrator is responsible for financial and budgetary operations; strategic planning and implementation; programmatic development and expansion; operational efficiency; regulatory compliance; facility and space planning; management and supervision of assigned team members; and relationship development with internal and external stakeholders.

The Pediatric Cardiology Service Line Administrator works in partnership with the Chiefs of Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, and the VP Operations, CHoR to manage the financial and non-clinical oversight of the programmatic and non-clinical operations for the service line (e.g., pediatric cardiology, pediatric non-invasive cardiology imaging, pediatric heart station, and the pediatric cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology lab, etc.). The service line leader supports and serves as a liaison between Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, University of Virginia/ Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters.

This position integrates the operating goals and objectives of the assigned service line department with patient and family care, teaching, research, and outreach for the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU and the VCU Health System.

Essential Job Statements

Service Line Leadership & Management

With input from physician and hospital administration leadership, oversees the development and implementation of the service line strategic plan.

Assists with the identification and tracking of measures and metrics to evaluate strategic plan implementation progress, operations efficiency, quality of care and measurable growth.

Develops business and operational plans to support service expansion.

Financial & Budgetary Management

Leads preparation of budgetary projections for service line; providing adequate detail to support projections.

Identifies and implements staffing needs for the service line.

Monitors operational and labor reports for trends and takes appropriate action to support efficient and cost-effective operations.

Prepares and adequately explains monthly budget variances.

Develops business and operational plans to support service expansion.

Program Development

Works in collaboration with department clinical leaders (physicians, APPs, sonographers, radiology technicians, etc.), hospital administrators, and organizational administrators to streamline patient access across the continuum of care.

Demonstrates the ability to identify and implement revenue enhancement and cost savings initiatives.

Maintains awareness of trends in the service line and the primary and secondary market service areas.

As appropriate, incorporates input from stakeholders during planning and implementation of service delivery changes.

Corporate Compliance

Ensures service line / department compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations as well as all VCU Health System policies and procedures that govern service line operations.

Employment Qualifications

Required Education:

Master’s degree in healthcare administration, Business Administration, Finance or a related field

Advanced certification as a healthcare executive

Minimum Qualifications

Years and Type of Required Experience

Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in leadership and management in academic health care setting to include: strategic planning/finance/budgeting; operations management; human resource management; and regulatory compliance.

Experience working and collaborating with senior leaders, medical leaders, and internal/external stakeholders.
