Parks and Recreation seasonal employment typically begins around mid-May and may run through Labor Day.

Seasonal employees in the Parks Department normally work 40 or more hours per week.

Aquatic, petting farm and maintenance positions work outdoors; recreation leaders frequently work outdoors.

POOL SUPERVISOR (SUMMER)

This position is responsible for ensuring patron safety and delivering exceptional services, promoting a high quality of life at all aquatic facilities; training, supervising and leading staff to highest industry standards; and communicating effectively with facility users. Duties include overseeing and performing all aspects of pool operations and facility maintenance; performing cashier and front desk duties; signing off on daily revenue reconciliations; interfacing with aquatic facility group leaders to ensure that group experiences are positive; and leading and instructing in-services and aquatic program classes. A high school diploma or equivalent; experience in lifeguarding; possession of supervisory or lead experience; and current Lifeguard certification issued by the American Red Cross (ARC), or the ability to obtain by date of hire, are required. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification, and ARC-issued Lifeguard Instructor certification are beneficial.

PAY GRADE SA16 / $23.52 PER HOUR

LIFEGUARD II (SUMMER)

NEW - MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT HAS NOW BEEN LOWERED TO 15 YEARS OLD! This position is responsible for ensuring patron safety in all aspects at assigned pools, and overseeing and managing communications between staff and the general public. Duties include overseeing day-to-day operations of assigned facility, such as supervising lifeguard staff, assigning duties and preparing various reports and logs; performing cashier and front desk duties; training lifeguards in required skills; and maintaining pool facility, equipment and supplies. Experience in lifeguarding and current Lifeguard certification issued by the American Red Cross, or the ability to obtain by date of hire, are required.

PAY GRADE SA12 / $19.21 PER HOUR

LIFEGUARD I (SUMMER)

NEW - MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT HAS NOW BEEN LOWERED TO 15 YEARS OLD! This position ensures the health and safety of patrons at all aquatic facilities. Duties include performing water rescue and first aid techniques as needed; performing cashier duties as assigned; maintaining pool, facility equipment and supplies, e.g. routine cleaning and custodial duties; positively interacting with facility users; and instructing aquatic programming classes as required. Must be at least 15 years of age; and have current Lifeguard certification issued by the American Red Cross, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

PAY GRADE SA09 / $1647 PER HOUR
