The Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine (LIU-CVM) in Brookville, New York, invites applications from self-directed, innovative and motivated individuals for a full-time Farm Animal Team Leader Caretaker position at the Marion Carll Farm (MCF) in Commack, New York.

The successful candidate may be engaged in the College of Veterinary Medicine's educational and service activities.

Primary responsibilities will include daily care of the livestock, farm upkeep and preparation for LIU-CVM laboratories at MCF.

Along with another caretaker, duties include care of livestock during weekends and holidays.

The successful candidate is expected to promote LIU-CVM's overall mission of enhancing veterinary medical education through a commitment to teaching, academic excellence, and service to a variety of stakeholders.

This position will at times require early morning starts and late evenings work.

The duties of Team Leader Farm Caretaker are to meet the operational and technical needs of MCF that houses teaching animals and hosts teaching activities of an accredited professional degree program.

The ideal candidate should possess organization skills, problem-solving skills, be adaptable, able to multi-task, possess the ability to work both independently and as a team and have good oral and written communication skills.

Qualifications: The successful candidate should possess a High school diploma or equivalent, have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, a valid driver's license (CDL desirable) and one year's experience with care of one or more species, i.e., cattle or small ruminants.

Preference will be given to candidates that have an Associate's degree or college degree with a minor in animal science, veterinary technology, agricultural technology, or 3 years of verifiable equivalent work experience.

Those with extensive farm animal experience are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will need to possess strength and endurance and be able to lift 50 pounds and withstand the demands and rigor of an outdoor job in all weather conditions.
