Position Information

EXAMINATION SCHEDULE:Initial application screening will result in a written examination. Subsequent testing dates to be posted as applicable.

Minimum Qualifications/Employment Standards:

One year of experience as a cook in a full-service restaurant or an institutional kitchen preparing food in quantity

OR

One year of experience as a Food Service Worker II

OR

A combination of education, training and/or experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skills to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Examinations:

Written (Weight 100%) Will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicant's knowledge of the methods of preparing food in large quantities and considerable variety; kitchen sanitation and food storage; and personal cleanliness and neatness.

Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the exam process.

This position works within various Kern County Departments.

Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.

Appointees are subject to fingerprinting for the purpose of a criminal records check as authorized by section 16501 of the California Welfare and Institutions code and section 11105.3 of the California Penal Code.

This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission. Candidates are encouraged to indicate acceptable geographical locations in which they would accept employment on their application form. Candidates MUST be willing to travel to these locations (areas/district offices).

*As a regular or provisional employee of Kern County, working twenty (20) hours or more per week, you are presently eligible for the following benefits as described below:
