Job Description
We are seeking a Full Time, QuickBooks Bookkeeper to service the bookkeeping needs of our small business clients (we're a bookkeeping firm). You will enter and code transactions (bills, expenses, receipts), perform bank/cc reconciliations, pay bills, enter deposits, record payroll entries, and produce basic financial statements. We need both speed and high quality, requiring both accounting skills and software skills.
This position requires attention to detail, efficiency, accuracy, and sound judgment. There are also opportunities for special projects beyond daily bookkeeping such as conversions, migrations, "shell files", cleanups, catchups, new company setup, client training, etc.
You will enjoy working with a variety of small to medium-sized businesses across various industries. No travel is required, and all work is performed in our Friendswood office. Our office is open from 8:30-5 PM, M-F.
We have an experienced team and admin staff that does our client billing, scheduling, and sales/marketing so you can focus on the books!
Responsibilities:
Basic bookkeeping and data entry, coding transactions
Reconciling bank and credit card accounts
A/R and A/P entry, coding, and matching
Record payroll transactions
Able to assist clients with occasional issues
Track time working on each client, along with notes on activities completed
Send client coding questions, and update coding based on client responses
Send clients financial statements or other requested reports
Month-end closings
Qualifications:
3-5+ years of recent bookkeeping experience in a Small Business environment, using QuickBooks. We have clients using QuickBooks Online as well as QuickBooks desktop (pro, premier, enterprise), and you need to be proficient in both.
Functional understanding of basic accounting principles and financial statement literacy
Experience performing all bookkeeping functions within a business or for multiple clients
Quick and accurate data entry, typing skills, + 10 key
Ability to prioritize, multitask, handle fires, and meet deadlines
Strong organization and written/verbal communication skills (we sometimes have to talk to clients)
Stable work history
Preferred:
Your most recent job title was "Bookkeeper"
Payroll experience: managing pay types, basic taxes, additions/deductions, payroll schedules, payroll processing, tax forms, etc. QuickBooks Payroll experience preferred, but let us know if you have hands-on experience with ADP, Paychex, or Gusto)
Experience filing and paying sales taxes
South Houston preferred due to the daily commute to our Friendswood office
QuickBooks Certifications/ProAdvisor Certifications
Associates Degree or higher in bookkeeping or accounting
Ability to see what’s NOT there (ie. find what’s missing or doesn’t fit)
Ability to handle additional QuickBooks projects from time to time (such as conversions to/from QBO/QBDT, cleanups, new company files, etc)
Experience doing "File Reviews" to identify problem areas in client accounting records, and advising clients on path forward
Experience importing/exporting using TPI or Saasant
Above average Excel skills (v-lookups, pivot tables, formulas)
Go getter personality. Someone who can do the job, but also able to add-value to the organization as we continue to grow
