Job Description

Harris County has created a new program, HART, which is the fourth branch of its first responder system. HART teams are composed of an EMR, EMT-B or AEMT and a mental health/social worker (CIS) and respond to community service/social welfare and health calls that are non-violent in nature and where there is no criminal involvement. Harris County’s goal is to bring a public health approach to these types of calls and provide the most effective community safety response.

We are looking for motivated, self starting, compassionate, experienced EMR, EMT-B or AEMTs to work hand in hand with local mental health and behavioral specialists. You will be an important part of Disaster Emergency Medical Assistance Texas, LLC's team bringing support to those in need in this program.

This program aims to help improve community health and safety, save law enforcement and emergency services time and resources, and help to reduce racial disparities in the criminal justice system.

Please note, this is a 7 day/week, including holidays, operation. Shifts range within 24 hours. Immediate hire for any shift assignment flexibility with movement within 24:7 shifts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Respond to calls for dispatched through the 911 system for community care services

Assess a patient’s condition and determine if the patient is stable or requires EMS assistance and report assessment findings to the on scene behavioral health specialist

Provide first-aid treatment and/or basic life support to patients

Clearly explain procedures to patients and relay information to others

Transfer patients to designated community care facilities or EMS

Work with a behavioral health specialist/social worker to refer patients to community based resources in an effort to keep them out of the hospitals and criminal justice system

Document medical care given to patients in a prompt and effective manner

Inventory, replace, and clean supplies and equipment after use

Maintain and clean service vehicle and station locations daily

Experience:

EMT: 1 year (Preferred)

Language:

Spanish or Vietnamese (Preferred)

License/Certification:

Driver's License (Required)
