Description:

Schedule: Part-time

School of Meteorology professors Dr. Aaron Hill and Dr. Cameron Homeyer are seeking a motivated undergraduate researcher to begin evaluation of global, data-driven AI weather forecasting models. These new AI models show great promise and are at the forefront of AI developments in weather forecasting. However, it is not yet clear how these models perform quantitatively for individual weather events and how they compare to traditional dynamics-based models. The student selected to work on this project will perform quantitative evaluations of model performance as well as qualitative assessments of model skill for case studies of high-impact weather events (e.g., floods, severe weather, blizzards). This is a paid research opportunity for undergraduate students.
