Overview:

Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. The RDA or DA dental sterilizer technician is responsible for the sterilization of all dental instruments used in dental procedures, as well as any instruments laid out for possible use. The RDA or DA dental sterilization technician may also set up and break down dental armamentarium from operatories in addition to performing Registered Dental Assistant or Dental Assistant duties as needed.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Thursday from 1:00pm - 9:30pm and Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm

Evening and weekend shifts (4 hours) with direct patient contact, include a 10% pay differential in addition to regular pay. Evening differential is paid only for completed 4-hour shifts that begin after 4:00Ppm.

Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities:

Organizes trays, instruments, and treatment room drawers always.

Prepares dental units for Dentist, stock units and ensures that units are always clean.

Maintaining the instruments and working areas in strict accordance with sterilization/ disinfection protocols.

Sterilize all instruments and headpieces according to OSHA regulations.

Preparing and arranging instruments for the sterilization process.

Wear heavy-duty utility gloves, a face shield and protective coverings when handling contaminated instruments.

Put away and organize dental instruments in operatories for re-use.

Operate sterilization machines (Autoclaves) safely, without risking burns or personal injury.

Ensure that office sterilization procedures are documented and always posted.

Break down, clean, and set up operatories as needed to assist the dental assistants.

Cross-training in other dental support positions as necessary.

Escort patients to treatment room, seat patients and have proper set-up for procedure ready as needed.

Conduct pre-patient staff meeting in the morning each day before starting shift.

Comply with all OSHA, Dental Board and MCC policies.

Oversee cleanliness of treatment room according to sterilization procedures.

Disinfect treatment rooms according to OSHA regulations.

Do daily hand piece inventory.

Other duties as assigned.

Secondary Responsibilities:

Greets and welcomes patients and visitors to practice with excellent customer service.

Assists patients with comfortable level.

Verifies patient’s chart and updates health information as necessary during patient arrival and at end of appointment.

Informs dentist when patient is ready for treatment.

Ensures proper treatment notes are accurately recorded in patients Electronic Health Records Epic chart.

Checks patient schedules daily for accuracy and post in all treatment rooms.

Checks lab daily for necessary equipment to treat patients.

Checks operatories for necessary armaments for patient visits and prepares next day supplies.

Providers oral hygiene instruction and nutritional counseling to patients.

Monitors supplies inventory and request supplies as needed and stocks treatment rooms at all times.

Provides maintenance on autoclave machines.

Provides weekly maintenance for water lines and changing traps in operatories.

Promptly sends out and monitors all dental laboratory cases.

Implements a preventative maintenance/cleaning schedule for dental equipment.

Maintains dental office emergency kits and nitrous oxygen tanks.

Follows laboratory procedures according to office protocols.

Uses appropriate electronic charting techniques for maintaining and updating dental records.

Tracks cases and referral to and from other doctors.

Sees that records are stored securely per HIPAA guidelines.

Assists in the administration of the recall system.

If RDA, performs coronal polish.

If RDA, ensures RDA license remains active through continued education.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma.

Infection control certificate.

Dental x-ray license.

Current CA State RDA license if applicable.

Bilingual (Spanish /English) is preferred.

Experience in EPIC Electronic Health Records a plus.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Must have completed an infection control course.

Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and written in English.

Must be able to work in fast paced Community Health clinic environment.

Intermediate computers use experience, including MS Office/MS Outlook.

Ability to multitask and follow directions in fast paced clinic environment.

Ability to follow directions with high attention to detail.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Must be able to work weekends as needed and be flexible to work at both, San Rafael and Novato Dental clinics.

Must be reliable and punctual.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

May be required to occasionally lift at least 20 – 25lbs.

Prolonged standing, stooping, and reaching.

Pinch grip.
