Mechanical Development Engineer
COMPANY OVERVIEW
Quality Electrodynamics (QED) is a global developer, manufacturer and supplier of advanced medical equipment electronics. Current products include cutting edge MRI radiofrequency (RF) antennas/coils for diagnostic imaging at the full range of magnetic field strengths. Most of these are FDA Class II noninvasive devices used for obtaining diagnostic images for various human anatomies. QED is located in Mayfield Village, Ohio.
JOB SUMMARY
A Mechanical Development Engineer develops innovative and cost effective mechanical components/products for RF coil products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, develop and rapid prototype “state of the art” mechanical components/packages/subsystems for RF coil development for MR systems
Working knowledge of rapid prototyping processes, machining and injection molding processes
Support design for reliability, manufacturability, serviceability and cost
Evaluate and coordinate with external vendor to support and provide prototype, pre-production and ECO mechanical package
Prepare and review mechanical documents for product development and program release
Work with RF coil development cross-functional teams including: management, program managers, electrical engineers, quality assurance, regulatory, manufacturing engineers, operations, sourcing, and document control
Provide technical support to engineering team as needed
Be a role model and lead by example
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field is required
Minimum 3 to 5 years of previous experience in mechanical design, product development or related field. Electromechanical design experience is a plus
Prefer experience in Medical Equipment Industry and RF coil development
Skills and Abilities
Required
Knowledge of rapid prototyping processes as well as injection molding processes
Understanding of RF coil hardware and electro-mechanical design
Proficient with SolidWorks and AutoCAD
Basic understanding of FMEA
Demonstrated ability for design plastic and metal components
Ability to design, build and troubleshoot her/his own work
Proficient in MS Office software, Outlook and the Internet
Clear written and interpersonal communication skills
Quick learner with strong multi-tasking skills
Team player
Preferred
FEA analysis expert knowledge using CosmosWorks or similar software
Electromechanical design experience is a plus
Industrial experience is plus
One or two prior years’ experience in medical device design is preferred
Understanding development process for medical devices is a plus
Understanding IEC testing for medical devices is a plus
Working knowledge and support of Quality Management System deliverables in a medical device environment
