Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design of our future product platforms and will contribute to the product design and development through market launch. The Senior Mechanical Engineer develops a thorough understanding of the product technology, leads the mechanical development of next generation devices, and demonstrates technical feasibility through analysis and testing. The position may be required to perform all, or a combination of the following essential responsibilities as determined by necessity.

This role is located at the Company’s Headquarters, located in Woburn, MA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and execute the mechanical design of next generation technology from concept to launch.

Define engineering requirements for complex electro-mechanical systems.

Mechanical design using SolidWorks, including designs for machining, sheet metal fabrication, and injection molding.

Identify and perform mechanical analyses including tolerance, thermal, structural, and flow analyses.

Lead design reviews and attain cross-functional alignment to make critical design decisions.

Lead prototype evaluations and verification and validation test activities.

Champion product reliability, usability, serviceability, and manufacturability throughout the development cycle.

Contribute to FMEAs and risk documentation as technical subject matter expert.

Manage relationships with third-party vendors to ensure that they are meeting the required performance standards. This includes communicating performance expectations, addressing performance issues, and negotiating contracts and pricing.

Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across multiple projects.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent job experience.

Experience with robotic device development a plus.

5+ years of related engineering experience, preferably in new product development environment. Medical device experience desired.

Proficiency designing components using SolidWorks including sheet metal, injection molded, and machined components.

Strong technical skill across all areas of mechanical design engineering (CAD, FEA analysis, GD&T, tolerance analysis, etc.).

Experience working with a variety of manufacturing and prototyping methods.

Proven problem-solving capabilities and strong analytical skills.

Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly present recommendations and ideas and to summarize complex issues.

Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment with shifting priorities, and multiple deadlines.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Available to travel up to ~10%, when necessary (for vendors visits, clinical studies, or manufacturing support).
