Sunkeeper Solar Overview
Sunkeeper Solar designs and installs solar photovoltaics, cogeneration, and battery energy storage in standalone and hybrid configurations to offset fossil fuel consumption, provide off- grid resiliency, and equip buildings to partake in the clean energy transition. Comprised of an experienced team of installers, electrical workers, engineers, and technicians, with a deep understanding of the New York City clean-energy and construction landscapes, Sunkeeper Solar is an ideal partner for any and all distributed generation projects in the NYC Metro area.
Project Engineer
Sunkeeper Solar’s Project Engineers play a key role in designing solar photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage, and cogeneration projects in and around the New York Metropolitan Area, as well as supporting Sunkeeper’s Project Managers during construction. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years’ experience in distributed generation, be interested to learn about renewable energy design and implementation, and be excited to work in a construction-focused environment, where you will get to see the results of what you put "on paper" firsthand.
Location: Office work will be performed on-site in Sunkeeper's downtown Brooklyn office, but applicants should be prepared to visit Sunkeeper Solar job sites in and around the NYC metro area as needed.
Responsibilities: Sunkeeper is a fast-paced and growing company, and applicants for the Project Engineer position should be flexible and be prepared to get their hands dirty. Common responsibilities for the position will include:
Engineering & Design Support
Producing and refining PV system energy models (Helioscope)
Performing and documenting field surveys of existing electrical, structural, and architectural conditions
Drafting & Producing drawing sets for submittals, regulatory filings, construction, quality control, and consulting presentations
Reviewing construction markup, RFIs, and photo documentation to produce as-built drawing sets
Producing conceptual sketches for RFIs and RFQs
Assisting in improving & maintaining Sunkeeper CAD infrastructure
Procurement Support
Researching equipment and procuring quotes
Performing cost-benefit analyses to value engineer Sunkeeper projects
Construction Support and Administration
Producing submittal packages
Preparing drawing takeoffs & bills of material (BOMs)
Compiling project documentation to produce closeout packages
Assisting Sunkeeper's construction staff during certain labor-intensive operations such as deliveries, mobilizations, and demobilizations
Permitting Support
Prepare and review with senior staff: utility interconnection applications, building permit applications, fire department permit applications
Miscellaneous Business Support
Assisting the Business Development team with policy research
Support O&M efforts by reviewing solar monitoring platforms on an as-needed basis
More generally, assisting with day-to-day tasks to support the growth of the business
Reporting: Project Engineers will report directly to the VP of Engineering.
Compensation & Benefits: Compensation will depend on applicant experience and performance.

Growth Opportunities: Project Engineers who successfully work with Sunkeeper for several years will have the ability to advance to the Senior Project Engineer position, where they will be directly responsible for designing solar and energy storage systems, providing engineering support during construction, procuring services from engineering vendors, and leading consulting projects. Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field
Familiarity with standard office software (MS Word, Excel, Gmail, etc.)
Ability to travel to job sites in the NYC metropolitan area
Physical requirements: While the position is primarily an office position, SKS is a construction company and will call personnel into the field for certain labor-intensive operations such as mobilizations and demobilizations. Additionally, accessing SKS job sites and performing some engineering tasks may have certain physical requirements. Applicants should be able to work outside during hot and cold weather, repeatedly lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, use standard hand tools, and follow verbal and auditory instructions during on-site work. The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Experience with technical drawing & drawing software (AutoCAD LT preferred)
If applicant does not already have it, applicant will be required to get their OSHA 30 & NYC 40-hour SST cards (Sunkeeper will pay for the classes).
Desired Skills, Certifications, & Experience: Preference will be given to applications possessing the following skills, experience, and certifications:
Experience & Building design, construction, and construction administration processes
Electrical design and construction
Past experience with solar PV and/or energy storage
Familiarity with with codes & standards - NEC, NFPA 70E, I-Codes, NYC Building & Fire Codes, etc.
Software: AutoCAD LT, Helioscope, PVSyst
Certifications: OSHA 30 / NYC SST 40-hr, NABCEP
