High Point University’s Office of Career and Professional Development is seeking a motivated and experienced Director of Career Advising to oversee and enhance our career advising services. As the Director, you will lead a team of career advising staff, providing strategic direction, mentorship, and support to ensure exceptional guidance for our students and alumni. This role requires a strong commitment to professional development, innovative career programming, and a dedication to fostering meaningful connections between our institution and the professional world as it is going to be.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Master's degree in counseling, higher education administration, human resources, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).

Experience and Training:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in career advising, counseling, or related fields, with progressive leadership responsibilities.

Strong understanding of career development theories, best practices, and trends in higher education.

Experience in budget management, strategic planning, and data analysis for program assessment and improvement.

Familiarity with career services software and technology tools for advising and job placement.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a varied team of professionals.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with students, employers, faculty, and staff.

Demonstrated ability to design and implement effective career development programs and services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leadership: Lead and manage a team of career advising professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans for career services aligned with the institution's goals and student needs.

Program Development: Design and implement innovative career development programs, workshops, and events to enhance student career readiness and outcomes.

Student Engagement: Oversee individual and group advising sessions, providing expert guidance on career exploration, job search strategies, resume development, and interview preparation.

Employer Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with employers, industry partners, and alumni to facilitate internship and job opportunities for students and graduates. Commitment to individuality without exceptions in career services and supporting students from multicultural backgrounds.

Data Analysis: Utilize data and metrics to assess the effectiveness of career advising programs and make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement.

Professional Development: Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for career advising staff to ensure their skills and knowledge remain current and relevant.

Collaboration: Collaborate with academic departments, student affairs, and other campus stakeholders to integrate career development into the overall student experience.

Budget Management: Manage the budget for career advising services, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet program objectives.

Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for career services within the institution, promoting the value of career development and its impact on student success.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

Reports to Vice President of Career and Professional Development.

Works closely with Career and Professional Development team.

Interacts frequently with university and community partners.
