Job Summary:

Under direction of the Clinic Medical Director, provide general medical care and treatment to HIV/AIDS patients in medical facility; such as outpatient clinic, health center, or public health agency. Perform physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines. Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs. Records physical findings, and formulates plans based on patient's condition. Discuss cases with physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan. Submit health care plan and goals of individual patients for periodic review and evaluation. Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs complete physical examinations, including interviewing patients to obtain complete medical histories as well as ordering, interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests and examinations.

Establishes and documents the health care plan and prognosis, maintaining records of each case that are detailed and complete for any physician reviewing them to evaluate the effectiveness of the plan.

Initiates drug therapy, taking responsibility for other reactions as well as therapy.

Under established guidelines, may review and analyze patient records in order to evaluate the usage if psychotropic drugs and the quality and appropriateness of the care of mental health patients.*

Effectively identifies, evaluates, and addresses disease prevention and health promotion issues of the population in the practice while administering quality patient care.

Works in an independent and interdependent relationship with members of the medical staff, which allows for consultation, collaboration, or referral.

Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of acute, chronic, and long-term healthcare issues.

Educates patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues, and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.

Maintains legible, accurate, and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with NCQA (National

Committee for Quality Assurance), JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), and state regulatory standards.

Facilitates evaluation of records by physician(s), peers, and Quality and Standards according to protocols, and receives and implements constructive directives.

Analyzes new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature, or "hands-on training" and assimilates this knowledge into clinical practice.

May refer patients to physician for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.

May review use and effects of psychotropic drugs and other medications as well as the characteristics of mental and emotional disorders.

Qualifications/Requirements:

EDUCATION:

Regionally accredited Master's degree in nursing required.

Specialty in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing and completion of an approved Adult, Child, or Family Nurse Practitioner Program, and/or completion of an approved Master's level Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner's Program.

EXPERIENCE:

1-3 years of experience working with HIV positive patients

AAHIVM, Annual Infection Control, Fire/Life Safety, Disaster Training.

Possession of a State-issued medication furnishing number, and A certificate issued by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration for writing of prescriptions for psychotropic medication.

LICENSES:

A license to practice as a Register Nurse and a certificate to practice as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Board Certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner - ANCC, American Academy of HIV Medicine

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Ability to work and communicate well with others, particularly in a clinical setting.

Demonstrate sensitivity towards people living with HIV/AIDS and other marginalized individuals.

Skills and ability developing individual service plans, prioritizing work flow and resolve problems.

COMPLEXITY:

The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.

Compensation:

$55.00 hourly

Position Status:

Part Time, 5 hours per week
