PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT/ADVANCED NURSE PRACTITIONER
Reports to: Medical Director/Supervising Physician
Director of Education and Clinical Development
Job Summary: The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will provide care within his/her scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law, licensing, regulations, institutional policy and practice agreements.
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant demonstrates an advanced level of medical clinical knowledge, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism and systems-based practice.
Provides episodic and minor injury care to patients under the supervision of the Medical Director following established best practice standards and protocols. Functions as a member of the clinical team maximizing the delivery of quality care to patients.
Primary Job Duties:
· Perform physical exams and assessments of patients including urgent, emergent and non-urgent presentation.
· Select, order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests including X-rays as appropriate in collaboration with supervising physician.
· Analyze reports and findings of tests to diagnose patients in collaboration with supervising physician as appropriate.
· Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness and injury in collaboration with supervising physician.
· Refers patient to PCP or specialist as appropriate.
· Perform procedures including laceration repair, I & D’s, IV’s removal of foreign bodies, splinting and casting, ear irrigations.
· Utilizes practice guidelines and standardized procedures in collaboration with the supervising physicians in providing medical care to patients.
· Performs DOT physicals.
· Explain procedures, discuss test results and prescribe treatments with patients.
· Utilize teaching opportunities with patients through verbal and written form and document in record.
· Document findings and treatment course in patient electronic medical record including follow-up notes.
· Interact with medical practices and emergency room physicians to create a cooperative atmosphere.
· Maintain up to date knowledge base for medical conditions and injuries that may present to an urgent care setting.
· Attend clinical provider staff meetings.
· Participate in professional development activities to ensure all license requirements are met.
· Maintain strictest confidentiality.
· Participate in clinical oversight to ensure staff practices safe, competent and efficient standards of care.
· Actively be involved in the daily circumstances that arise in the Urgent Care setting in collaboration with staff, Clinic Manager and Supervising Physician.
Education:
Nurse Practitioner:
• Master’s or Doctorate’s degree from accredited Nursing Program
Physician Assistant:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from accredited PA Program
Licenses/Certifications:
Nurse Practitioner:
• Active RN and APNP license in State of Texas AND
• Active board certification as an NP in Family
Physician Assistant:
• Active PA board certification AND Active PA license in State of Texas
All Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant applicants must have:
• Active DEA license unrestricted or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire
• CPR certification and others as required and relevant to practice area.

Experience:
Preferred:
A minimum of two years clinical experience in an urgent care setting, Emergency Room or Family Practice office.
Accepted:
Previous related experience in the above settings during employment and clinical rotations, with references supporting the observation of good clinical judgement and professional leadership ability.
Knowledge:
· Knowledge of medical coding and documentation requirements
· Knowledge of the principles and practice of urgent care medicine/family practice.
· Knowledge of the principles and practice of occupational health medicine.
Skills:
· Competent with common PC applications including Internet, Email and Microsoft Office.
· Ability to interact with patients, medical and administrative staff and the public effectively.
· Excellent customer service skills.
· Skill in planning, organizing, delegating and supervising.
