Northeast Animal Shelter - Behavior Manager

This is a full-time 40 hour a week position, with required weekend days.

MSPCA is currently seeking an experienced animal behavior training professional with excellent teamwork skills to join our Northeast Animal Shelter team. This is a unique opportunity to work on a team of behavior professionals, committed to using science based approach to changing animal behavior.

THE POSITION:

Themain goal of the BehaviorManageris to ensure the behavioral wellbeing of all animals supported by MSPCA shelter locations through the development, refinement and implementation of behavior programs. In addition, the behavior manager also:

Acts as a resource to shelter staff through effective supervision, training and coaching

Oversees behavior evaluations and training plans to enhance animal adoptability

Creates and implements programs to engage pet-owners and potential adopters with a goal of increasing animal behavior education in the community

Collaborates with all APD teams including clinics, shelter, adoption centers, law enforcement and community outreach

Advises staff on best methods of facilitating appropriate matches for animals with more challenging behaviors in need of additionalbehavioralsupport

Supports the daily functions of the clinic including, but not limited to, intakes, evaluations, euthanasia decision making, creating and implementing training andbehaviormodification plans for complex cases, low stress handling techniques, playgroups, and enrichment.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree or higher.

CCPDT-KA, KPA-CTP, IAABC or other accredited professional dog training certification.

Fear Free Certification within 6 months of hire or promotion date.

EXPERIENCE

Two years working or volunteering directly with animals, ideally of different species, sizes, and temperaments, under the supervision of a behavior professional.

Two years working in animal welfare or related field.

Two years creating and implementing training/behavior modification plans in accordance with the MSPCA's philosophies.
